1) the light is more evenly distributed, with less harsh shadows (eg on deeper shelves) 2) if fitted with a new electronic starter, they are 'instant on' 3) if left on by mistake when the door is closed, they won't consume 'too much' electricity. We're installing one with an electronic starter and a motion sensor. I'll also put in some LED under-shelf lighting for our workbench within the pantry (ours is a walk-in), as shown on other posts within this forum. Re: Walk-In Pantry Light? 6Sep 24, 2010 1:36 pm Anyone used downlights in there? I'm thinking of using one of these... http://shop.micaunited.com.au/store/sen ... lours.html It's a sensor downlight, the room is about 2x2 with shelves all around (no bench). On that note, (and yeah, derail), but since these rooms are about the same size as powder rooms/water closets, are single downlights good enough for those rooms too? Hmm I should go look for a bathroom lighting thread Re: Walk-In Pantry Light? 7Sep 24, 2010 2:20 pm Sheepdog it is all personal choice I suppose. I dislike dark rooms - the brighter the better for me so I would always steer on the side of overkill LOL - if I used downlights I would put at least 2 in. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Walk-In Pantry Light? 8Sep 26, 2010 10:52 am We had downlights in our last pantry operated by a sensor and they worked out fine. We also had fluoros in our current house as main lights and the light is very harsh. They are now downlights and hanging pendants and are much nicer in the evening - something to consider.
