Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 07, 2010 7:11 pm Hi All, I just installed some clipsal saturn light switches and have noticed that my cfl lights are now ever so slightly flickering now when the light is turn off (couple of times a second). My led downlight flicks on for a split second every few seconds also. The normal incandescents do not do this, I would imagine this is because they have a higher resistance. Has anyone every encountered this porblem before? Im thinking maybe installing some sort of resistor may work??? Thanks Re: Lights flickering when off! 2Jun 07, 2010 9:57 pm One of ours is doing this-flickers when off. I think it has stopped though. Weird isn't it? Re: Lights flickering when off! 8Jun 10, 2010 10:38 pm I'm not sure Cheetah. There has to be a way. Have you phoned a sparky? Re: Lights flickering when off! 10Jun 11, 2010 10:27 am Hi cheetah, I've recently had 2 install a new "energy saving" light globe in my bedroom & it started flickering (when off) the other night. It didn't come on fully but was enough light to notice in an otherwise dark room. Anyway I asked my step father about it (he is the font of all knowledge ) and he said the new globes pick up on static electricity in the air which is what makes them flicker. He's not a sparky so dunno if that's the cause but if so there's not much u can do to fix it (except petitioning the government 2 let us have a choice of which globes we want to use!) Hope that helps. Re: Lights flickering when off! 11Jun 11, 2010 8:49 pm Im not so sure thats it though cause I had the lights on the regular light switches and they were fine, only when I switched to the led switches did it become a problem... what switches do you have? Re: Lights flickering when off! 13Jul 02, 2010 9:26 am The capacitor in the globes might still be holding a change that hasn't dissipated properly the cheaper globes tend to flicker I've noticed.
Re: Lights flickering when off! 14Apr 30, 2014 8:39 pm it's normal, happening to our house as well. we've got clipsal saturn for entire house the sparky said CFL won't work, but my LED also won't work, they all flicks. he found a solution by rewire the lightswitch, it works, no more flickering however, it won't work on 2-way+, only 1 way. he is stilling thinking what he can do about it. 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: Lights flickering when off! 16May 01, 2014 2:48 am the blue led suppose to be blue when in the off position so people can see it in the dark. like what i said, the sparky found a solution for the 1-way switch, but still working on 2-way. i will ask him to try to use Clipsal 31 CAP Capacitor Load Correction to see if it can fix the problem 7.5M Dual Frontage terrace @ lightsview SA /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=58754 moved in - April 2014 furnitured - August 2014 home theatre - September 2014 Game room - December 2013 moved in - 09 April 2014 Re: Lights flickering when off! 17May 13, 2014 9:28 pm frozenkuku the blue led suppose to be blue when in the off position so people can see it in the dark. like what i said, the sparky found a solution for the 1-way switch, but still working on 2-way. i will ask him to try to use Clipsal 31 CAP Capacitor Load Correction to see if it can fix the problem ...huh? It's because he's wired the neutral of the LED through the load rather than to a neutral. Re: Lights flickering when off! 18May 14, 2014 12:20 am You can resolve the fault. It is due to those specific switches and the fact your sparky more than likely did not have a neutral at the switch and wired them accordingly (which is fine, but not ideal due to this case). If your switches have conduits in the wall, all you need to do is have a neutral to each switch and wire them all as per the specification. I've heard of this happening so every time I wire these up I ensure there is a neutral present. Otherwise, you'll have to ditch the idea of your blue light on ur switch in the arrangement you currently have it (light off/led on) Re: Lights flickering when off! 19May 14, 2014 12:22 am frozenkuku the blue led suppose to be blue when in the off position so people can see it in the dark. like what i said, the sparky found a solution for the 1-way switch, but still working on 2-way. i will ask him to try to use Clipsal 31 CAP Capacitor Load Correction to see if it can fix the problem Rather than using those, there is a fairly simple wiring diagram I have that will fix it. It just involves running another twin between the switches. I'm planning on putting deck lights along the outside edge of a large deck. Will need about 3 packs (18 lights) plus… 0 23025 I couldn't attached the photo for some reason.
