Perhaps they are the replacement for those horrible LV Downlights. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ SUPER BRIGHT 60 LED WHITE MR16 DOWN LIGHT (12V AC) THESE L.E.D DOWN LIGHTS ARE MADE FROM EXTREMELY HIGH QUALITY L.E.Ds. THEY CONSIST OF A DURABLE CONSTRUCTION AND HIGH GRADE BONDING MATERIALS THAT BOND THE CIRCUITRY TO THE BASE CONTACTS. THEY ARE SUPER BRIGHT, AND ONLY USE ONLY 3.6W OF POWER COMPARED TO STANDARD 50W HALOGEN MR16 GLOBES! SAVE HEAPS ON POWER CONSUMPTION WITH THESE LEDs, AS APPOSE TO YOUR CONVENTIONAL 20W OR 50W HALOGEN GLOBES. A TOTAL CURRENT DRAW OF ONLY 300mA & A POWER DRAW OF A ONLY 3.6 Watts PER GLOBE! (COMPARED TO A 50W HALOGEN WHICH DRAWS OVER THIRTEEN TIMES THAT!) *** PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR TRANSFORMERS ARE SUITABLE FOR OUR LOW CURRENT DRAW LED GLOBES *** DUE TO THE VERY LOW CURRENT DRAW OF OUR LED GLOBES, ELECTRONIC TRANSFORMERS OR DIMMERS CANNOT BE USED. Why does it then say it's not suitable for an electronic transformer? Is this something different to the transformers that are attached to the downlights?

I think there are different types of transformers... The experts might know?? Guys?? I can understand not working with dimmers (LEDs require a fairly specific voltage & current supply) but unless the electronic ones become so unregulated at low current draw that they severely over-volt, then I can't see why they are a prob. LED's being a specific voltage type of device - and an electonic device - they do not behave very well when you apply a electronic chopped voltage to them. Which is why. Generally the heavier the transformer - the more likely it is a real transformer with copper windings in it. Unless they put some heavy steel in there to make it feel like a real transformer.
