http://www.todae.com.au/comersus2/store ... roduct=643 Possum 240V - 12V Electronic Transformer by Todae $15.95 The Possum Electronic Transformer will save you electricity and money by reducing the amount of electricity used in your lighting. The transformer uses 4w as opposed to 15w of conventional tranformers. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: The Possum Electronic Transformer is an alternative to normal halogen transformers. Normal transformers use between 10w and 15w and can be a hazard due to the amount of heat they create as well as making air conditioning system work harder. The Possum uses only 4ws to transform the mains power 240V into 12V so it is compatible with halogen MR16 lights. Replacing normal transformers with possums can save you on average $3 per year per light. So if you have 20 halogens in your house, every year you will save $60 on your energy bill.* PRODUCT FEATURES: * Uses 4w's of power compared to 15w of a normal transformer. * Simply replaces your old transformer. PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS: * 240 volt 50 Hz power point. * Power usage - 4w. PRODUCT BENEFITS: # Increase the lifespan of your lights. # Use less power which means cheaper to run. # Create less carbon emissions, so they are better for the environment. *Based on an average of 6 hours per day at a cost of 13c/Kwh. I used to repair computer power supplies in the 80's that used high voltage DC switching transistors to do exactly what this item is doing. We had 300V DC on the case of the trannies and by switching it as high speed it effectively can make a lower voltage - but they used to blow transistors pretty often. Hope they have some better technology in the Possum that makes them last better than our german made PSU's used to last. My thoughts. A great idea - and time will prove it;s durability.
