Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 15, 2010 9:03 pm Hi forum, I have been to shop light and got confused with the bedside lamp light option. Can't decide which is more better. please help. please choose which option is best for bedroom bedside light? 1) bedside lamp Advantage:- light will direct focus on book Disadvantage:- lamp will be more dearer to handle 2) bedside wall light Advantage:- easy, only one time maintenance Disadvantage:- can't move the bed head in other direction Cheers, Simpson Re: bedside lamp vs bedside wall light 3Mar 15, 2010 9:52 pm Having the argument with my DH. I like lamps, he wants wall lights because he doesn't want them in the way. He keeps knocking them over...all the time...esp in the middle of the night... So to compromise I don't mind in the grand scheme of things, I will have more room for books and tissues on my bedside table, ...so wall lights it is for us...(I got lots of other stuff though..) The space is such that the furniture layout really can't be altered so having a fixed light is not a worry. If you like a flexible layout, that you can change in the future, then a lamp would be a better option Re: bedside lamp vs bedside wall light 5Mar 15, 2010 10:57 pm mpcj ... So I guess we'll be going with bedside lamps some time in the future. I like the flexibility of moving the bed if i want to. Even if it's just moving it a foot or so to one side so wall lights wouldn't work for us. Plus it's easier to change the design/colours without having to call in a electrician if the cover or design dates. Re: bedside lamp vs bedside wall light 10Mar 18, 2010 8:44 pm Definately depends on the type of light you end up with. The right light..it will of course look fantastic! Thankfully there are always Tim Tams Re: bedside lamp vs bedside wall light 11Mar 18, 2010 8:54 pm g'day simpson, I had two pendant lights put next to our master bed. Bear in mind this is the ONLY wall a bed could go on, so future moves did not matter, however, we have a king bed, so future owners may find it awkward! oh well... The light is much better from a pendant light, because like ours, you can have a multi bulb pendant (low watt - eco) and very good for reading, and mood lighting too... I'm not sure how wall hung lights will look, perhaps great if a modern sconce, not an old fashioned looking one (unless you like that look anyway!) we had the point installed by our builder and had our sparky attach the pendant post-handover at our cost. I think ours is a little wide to look at, but doesn't feel wrong if you use it, it's fine where it is. We wanted it hung low, but in hindsight, would have preferred we had it hung maybe 10cm higher... and the switch to turn them on/off is directly behind the pendant, so you don't see the light switch when you walk in, but in hindsight (AGAIN!!) we should have had the switch closer to our bed. (We have to get out of bed to turn it on/off!) here's some pics. (excuse my DH's dirty side table!) I have a little 2.5yo who is an expert at pulling them off one-by-one, of course when I'm not round to stop him, and then, I might add, hides the beads all over the house for me to find, one-by-one, for the rest of my days here. More than happy to send him your way to assist you in "re-defining" your crystal pendants in the future if you have the need!) aren't I lucky... hmmmm It's quite stunning, and real feature in our master bed - if you can, go for it. If you want to move bed around later, then stick with side lamp. hope this helps! A thankful person is a happy person. But I do love the king sized bed!! Good Point Becster, Can i please ask about the children room? What did you consider for children rooms? Thanks Simpson Hi - thanks for your reply. Yes I think 'Ill go for whitish with very speckly bits rather than pure white something like this. PS was actually 2008 I built the… 2 11707 That was always going to be a challenge and a test of patience. Full marks to your mate. Did you discuss the wet area near the trampoline? 16 17375 It might be a bit darker in the mornings but the light is still light, so you should be getting it.
