Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Jun 12, 2007 1:00 am Just bought a new house which was built in the mid 1980's and although kitchen, bathrooms etc have all been modernised they didn't pay any attention to the lighting !! As a result we have the old style recessed downlights everywhere with typical spotlight bulbs and even dated and worn out eyeball fittings - They are everywhere - 8 in the kitchen alone !!
The real problem, however is the wide and deep recessed lights in the minor bedrooms and study - these have a diameter of about 18cm and will obviously leave a very large hole in the ceiling if removed - can anyone help me with a product or method of filling in the resultant holes ? - I have heard of some form of blanking plate that clips into the hole and houses a smaller more modern downlight but can't find anything anywhere Re: Replacing 1980's downlights 3Nov 30, 2007 4:24 pm I made some small rings out of a thin MDF for my parents place that had the same problem. Painted it white so its the same colour as the ceeling. It allowed them to install more modern/effecient downlights, didn't cost much, isnt noticable.
