But I am not one for a lot of clutter so having the downlights with a few larger pendants (in the entry, over the island bench in the kitchen) works well for me Re: Lighting for Bedrooms in new houses? 22Jun 04, 2009 8:25 am hubby and I both read at night and with a big master bedroom we were worried about having enough light.. I made an impulse decision to have two lights on the wall behind the bed (the wall is one of those recessed ones). The the lights will go on the flat part of the wall and the light switches will go on the side part of the niche thingy (gee I just did a bang up job of describing that didn't I!)... Anyway now I am having second thoughts because I can't find anything I like for the wall and am worried it will date Re: Lighting for Bedrooms in new houses? 23Jun 04, 2009 5:20 pm We had two lights on a wall behind bed at a rental and I loved it. They were great for reading. The paris light doesn't get dirty. I was told not to put it in a kitchen but its fine in the bedroom. - just a warning don't go for the highest wattage like us as the room "glows" when we turn it on. The ikea light on the other hand does get dusty but is easy to clean. I think it gives off plenty of light. I think its 40 watts but with an energy light bulb you can get 100 watts - definately bright enough. Matt blatt has more expensive versions so if you like that look you might want to check out their website. HOpe this helps Re: Lighting for Bedrooms in new houses? 24Jun 04, 2009 7:06 pm We put a central oyster in the kids' rooms, which is adequate - they still have lamps for reading in bed though. Our bedroom is a little on the large side, so we have a number of downlights - with a dimmer on the ones over the bed, and a two way switch, with one placed next to the bed. We still have bedside lamps as well. A lot of displays have pendants either side of the bed, placed so that they're over the bedside tables, instead of lamps. All you need is to position a couple of battens in the right place and you can take your time finding what you want.
