Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how much they paid to upgrade the normal lights to down lights and also how much it cost to add each additional down light in?

Whaaaat ? $98 for a downlight .. I'm so telling my wife about their price . We were planning to have 40 downlights Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 4Mar 11, 2009 5:02 pm Their prices have gone up this year A batten is now $41 and not $36 so their downlights may have gone up too 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' No, they leave you in the dark..... Yes, they come with a certain number of batten lights as standard - if you want more then you have to pay for them 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' You can save plenty by just having one light point (batten) per room. If you like downlights and other fancy stuff expect to outlay some cash. 3 to kitchen 2 to ensuite 1 to bathroom Wall lights in the entry way and lounge wall. Then a bunch of batton points in extra locations which we will replace with our own (much nicer!) light fittings within 1 to 2 years. Personally I do not like downlights in living areas I find they are to harsh in such a narrow beam for anything other than lighting up a work space. The idea of having 4 lights on in the place of 1 central seem absurd to me. Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 10Mar 11, 2009 9:08 pm i asked PD for a quote today on how much to upgrade the standard light to a down light and was told that it would cost $53 and $115 for each additional light and that sounded way too expensive Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 11Mar 11, 2009 9:19 pm willow04 i asked PD for a quote today on how much to upgrade the standard light to a down light and was told that it would cost $53 and $115 for each additional light and that sounded way too expensive I read somewhere that one of the electricians can install each one for ~$50 that's half the price of what PD charges, so it's a big NO for downlights by PD. I'm even doing house rendering using a 3rd party. Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 13Mar 11, 2009 11:18 pm The problem with downlights is that you need more than one light to produce the same light intensity (luminance) of s standard incandescent light (the normal light bulb).
I will have the batten lights for now, and then I will get the downlights later. Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 14Mar 12, 2009 3:15 pm yah....it's super super exxy. We absolutely love love love downlights and wanted them all over the house. So while we can't afford it right now....we have gotten PD to put in extra batten holders where we want the downlights...then we can get downlights put in by our sparky later on. We were told that it is much easier to convert an existing batten holder to a downlight. We're building a double storey house as well...so it made sense to have everything as ready as possible. Plus there was very very limited choice in downlights available through PD.....none of the energy saving ones.
So if you think there are select areas where you might want downlights that will be hard for your sparky to access after handover...then just put in a batten where you want your downlight. Re: PD Electrical and Downlights 18Mar 12, 2009 8:01 pm The price seem to vary quite a bit depending on whether you get halogen or energy efficient down lights. The PD prices seem in line with quotes we've seen for the energy efficient ones. The halogens are about 1/2 that price.
