Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Mar 05, 2009 9:10 pm What's the usual procedure when it comes to installing light fittings with a volume builder?
1. Organise after handover or 2. Organise direct with electrician during build As we are having flat roof two storey house I'm assuming that most installations of pendants, down lights, exterior lights and fans needs to be done during the build? Also is there any requirement that the builder must supply a basic fitting for external lights due to exposure to the elements? Thanks once again! Re: Who installs your light fittings? 2Mar 06, 2009 8:35 am Our previous experience was that the builder would only install the actual downlights or bayonets to screw lightbulbs into. With our current home we will be buying the actual light fittings and getting the sparky to do them as he goes - but this is a small private builder so could be different to a volume builder.
As for the outside light - again volume builders normally just put an external bayonet outlet unless you have specified something different. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Who installs your light fittings? 3Mar 06, 2009 10:49 am I think most volume builders won't allow you to bring your own electrican
So normally people would ask the builder to install a junction box or a standard light point in the house, so you can get an electrican to change it after handover.. If you are building double storey, people normally suggest to do all lighting for downstair during the build, because it will be hard to do it after handover Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Who installs your light fittings? 4Mar 06, 2009 5:01 pm the currency here is beer.
Buy enough beer and the sparky will do it and some for the supervisor to turn a blind eye. Usually people will get a sparky to come back after handover to replace the batten fix fittings with your chosen lights. Main problem with volume builder is the sparkies only carry the equipment to do the rough in and fitout. So to Install lights as well, he may not carry the appropriate fixings or tools Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. Hi - thanks for your reply.
