Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Feb 04, 2009 12:29 pm Am rethinking downlites, as not convinced the lite levels from LED's OR CFL's will be sufficient in down lites.
What other styles of lighting are others using in bedroom & living areas? Re: Lighting Alternatives 2Feb 04, 2009 12:56 pm We'll be going with the good old ceiling oyster - or fanaway fans which have nice lights included. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Lighting Alternatives 3Feb 04, 2009 3:27 pm Me too.... I've pulled the plug on downlights entirely. Not going to have one. Combination of oyster, feature pendants, wall lights.... and oithers yet to be detrimined. But no downlights.
I'm actually a bit over them to tell you the truth. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Lighting Alternatives 4Feb 04, 2009 3:54 pm We are only having them in the living areas, hall plus the home theatre (as well as wall sconces here too). The bedrooms will all have pendants of some sort as will the study. Bathrooms are all having tastics, toilets, pantry and laundry will all have flourescents. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Lighting Alternatives 5Feb 04, 2009 3:58 pm You can still have downlights. Look at the R63 and R80 CFL lamps. These will give enough light and last OK. The GU10 CFLs are useless.
You can also get some larger (~110 mm) downlights that take the more conventional sized CFLs). Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Lighting Alternatives 6Feb 13, 2009 8:35 am I hate downlights but i know they serve a purpose.
I have downlights over my kitchen bench and in my general living area. In my hallways i have installed recessed wall lights that are at knee height. they project light down across the floor. The are cool to touch so therefore kid friendly. I have them on motion sensors (hidden in the ceiling next to the smoke alarms) so they just come on when you need them. In the home theatre I have the same lights. In the master bedroom, I have two larger recessed wall light to shine up across the ceiling The only ceiling mounted lights I have are oysters in the kids bedrooms. Here's a link to Cosmoluce. Its a PDF of their catalogue. the light i have are CLM900 on page 52 http://www.cosmoluce.com.au/pdfs/cosmol ... 08Full.pdf Re: Lighting Alternatives 8Feb 14, 2009 4:14 pm I believe more soft light than one bright light.

The dining table was a Freedom table and I have had that in two houses now. Both places I have had to chase into the concrete slab to install a mini power point in the floor. The hall lights are about $100 each so $1300 trade for a hallway is expensive. I have done similar things at friends houses, like lights on stairs controlled by motion sensors, Starserve with hidden CCTV cameras which tune into the tv and full remote control alarms integrating into garage doors and lights. In the main photo of the front of the house, in the top right corner above the garage there is an Infrascan (motion sensor) and a camera. Here's a shot of the camera. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/012.jpg Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. Re: Lighting Alternatives 13Feb 15, 2009 10:39 am Here's some more shots of lights.
this is the main entrance. These light come on automatically when its dark enough to need light. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/housestuff011.jpg Above the mirrored wall are these two downlights which are switched so to be able to have more light when you want it. when you first walk it, they are hidden behind the buklhead so the light is" just there" In this shot is a Clipsal Infrascan indoor motion sensor. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02404.jpg A closer shot of the ankle light. It is a 12v 5w halogen which i chose to be child friendly. Not hot surfaces http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02405.jpg This is the Portico at the front door. I have hidden this PDL motion sensor so the lights (4 of the ones in the photo which are a weatherproof downlight) come on when someone walks to the front door or garage door. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02402.jpg This is another shot of the hall during the day. The lights will only come on when required. The sensor is on the roof just infront of the smoke detector. Again its a Clipsal Infrascan. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02410.jpg Moving outside, this is a Clipsal Infascan (outdoor model and the only motion sensor worth getting). It controls the budget downlights in the eaves. Next to it is an Infra red Day/Night vision CCTV camera http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02401.jpg These are 12v 6W LED brick lights. They put out more lumens than the equivalent in 240V. I run 8 lights on one 1.5mm garden light cable buried 600mm down and in counduit back to an iron core transformer in the roof. They are switched by a micro photoelectric cell. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02407.jpg the photoelectric cell. yes that little black dot on the fascia! http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02408.jpg and finally, my exhaust fans. I chose 200mm incase they ever die and i can't fill the hole. There will always be a 250mm fan available if i need to replace it. It sits next to stainless oyster in the laundry. The fan operates on a moisture switch so to turn on when the air from the dryer dictates high humidity. The light is on a sensor too. http://i727.photobucket.com/albums/ww280/aussieIDI-07/DSC02411.jpg Licenced Sparky and Data Cabler If "The Data Guys" is too long to type, TDG will do. 11 23173 Building Standards; Getting It Right! 1. optional, you can but normally just use the earth from the main switch board 2. should be enough but the distance determines voltage drop - sparky should work it… 1 28817 I have a really long hallway which is 1100mm W x 11500mm L I would appreciate if anyone can give suggestions to light it up with Linear LED lights that goes from wall to… 0 8820 |
