My Builders does not do an electrical selection as such and I need to mark lights etc on my plan for them. How big does a room need to be before you change from 1 to 2 celling lights? How far apart should they be on the outside walls to give adequate path lighting? Is a heat / Light in the bathroom enough light or would I need extra? How much are heat/light lamps to install later - my builder wants $420 as an upgrade from std extractor to fit a lamp worth heat lamp worth $240 - seems steep. Are ceilling fans easy to fit after hand over or should I have fan provision installed? This is $120 a light and only includes the wiring in the walls to where the swich will be, not sure it includes the rotery switch. Many thanks and any other advice regarding electrical plans would be great. Peter Re: Lighting - How many for how big? 2Jan 03, 2009 8:57 am Hi All,
My Builders does not do an electrical selection as such and I need to mark lights etc on my plan for them. How big does a room need to be before you change from 1 to 2 celling lights? For oyster light or batten (eg. 23W CFL or 60W incandescent): 4x4 m room = 1 light, 6 x 4 m room = 2 lights. For downlights (eg. 50W halogen or 15W CFL) one every 4 square metres. That is 4x4 m room = 4 lights, 6 x 4 m room = 6 lights. How far apart should they be on the outside walls to give adequate path lighting? For downlights, place them one metre in from the walls and then every 2 metres. Is a heat / Light in the bathroom enough light or would I need extra? Place a light over the mirror as well. This way your face is well illuminated. How much are heat/light lamps to install later - my builder wants $420 as an upgrade from std extractor to fit a lamp worth heat lamp worth $240 - seems steep. Mention to your builder that the heat lamp is $240 retail and why does it cost $420 to upgrade (there may be more switches (and therefore wiring) or other valid reasons). Are ceilling fans easy to fit after hand over or should I have fan provision installed? This is $120 a light and only includes the wiring in the walls to where the swich will be, not sure it includes the rotery switch. I think you'll need a ceiling fan as part of some building regulation. For a ceiling heater/light you'll need an extra switch for the heater. It may also be a muliple position switch for diffferent heating levels. Many thanks and any other advice regarding electrical plans would be great. Peter Others may have more information.
