Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Oct 22, 2008 8:08 am Hi all,
I hate having to get out of bed when I realise a light is left on on the other side of the house Is it possible to have a switch next to my bed that I can switch off and this switches off all the lights in the house??? Is this expensive or complicated?? Is it only the domain of expensive home automation , which I dont want. Do you have to have anything special to do it. Obviously we would want to be able to overide the master switch locally ie the kids get up at night and switch on their light?? Mike 2/3 of the way thru the build Re: master light switch next to bed??? 2Oct 25, 2008 11:02 am i will try to answer this the best i can, the easiest way for this to be done would be for an electrician to run a cable from your switchboard to a switch in your bedroom this will then basically act as a circuit breaker but in your bedroom, the downfall to this would be that there is no way to overide this anywhere else in the house as the supply to the lighting circuit will be off. the only way i can see for that to be a possibility would be home automation but the simplest way would be to turn them off before you go to bed Re: master light switch next to bed??? 3Oct 25, 2008 12:15 pm I've read this post a couple of times...I keep having visions of one of these..."throw the switch Igor...throw the switch....".... sorry

If your light switch doesn't work, just yell out, "throw the switch Igor". If the switch is used regularly, the life of the batteries is possibly going to be substantially reduced. I saw this once in a brand new premises several years ago, and had to write a defect to the electrician but the only rule I could use was that the smoke alarms weren't wired as per the manufacturer's instructions... I didn't end up re-inspecting it to see if he had fixed it, but it would've been fairly simple in that case as the powerboard was in the built-in wardrobe and very close to the master light switch (on the side of the wardrobe). Two ways around it would be to use contactors so the smoke alarms still had power, or to use a much more expensive programmable home-automation system like Clipsal C-BUS, Dynalite or similar. Any electricians here please help. 1) Will the Fan need separate switch to ON/OFF/Speed eventhough it comes with Remote 2) how about… 0 1208 Thank you so much. This has been very helpful.
