The problem is I'm not sure my builder is offering these empty sockets. As far as I know it either batons or junction boxes? Not sure what u mean by batons. I have those but the hold up the plaster ceiling. For lights we wired up 3pin plug bases then put the lights into those so they are easy to install/remove by a non sparkie. I am keen to source them externally and possibly install post handover. We are also looking at a number of two way switches. Do you think it is best to sort out all the variances to the electrical circuit with the builder or wait and deal direct with the electrician? We know exactly where we want the lights and switches, so getting all the switches done and just having junction boxes installed in the roof so our sparky can come after handover and put the downlights in at a fraction of the cost of the builder. I think we are paying $50 per JB and $30 each for conduit to certain switches. Sure beats $200 PER downlight installed by builder. Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 10Jul 29, 2012 3:58 pm You could ask the builders' electrician to only pre-wire (i.e. add the relevant wire loops) for where you can get your own electrician to install 413 plugs (or clip-ons that take but 30s to put onto the wire) at a much better cost. It worked out way way cheaper (especially when you have many lights) for us. We too struggled with the limited options from our builders electrician, but when we met the actual electrician on site, he was very knowledgeable and completely understood what to do with regard to 413 sockets after handover. We now have about 50 sockets with dimmers and the D900/D1000s work beautifully! Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 13Jul 29, 2012 7:35 pm Thanks Guys, I will discuss with builder further and find most cost effective option Building in Blackwood Park 2012/13 Land settled 8/8/12 Contract signed 6/11/12 Encumbrance approval 24/12/12 Development Approval 24/4/13 Slab Poured 8/7/13 Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 14May 21, 2013 10:43 pm Sorry for bumping an old thread but I figured this is the best place to ask. What about new double storey homes? I assume there are no way to access the ground floor sockets if the 413 plugs were used. So does this mean m16 or gu10 are the only alternatives? Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 15May 22, 2013 3:04 pm depends if the 413 sockets were fixed or floating, a see a lot of floating quick connect style plug bases these days. There is always the chance if you have a 90mm cutout of reaching in far enough to access the plug. Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 16May 27, 2013 11:34 pm Don't confuse the connection to the bulb (GU10 or MR16) with the connection to the mains wiring. Your options are hard wired or via a 413 socket. As Think wise says you can reach into the ceiling space and pull the floating socket over to the hole so that you can plug/unplug the fitting. Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 17Jun 20, 2013 11:15 am My building is only providing two options. 1. supply and install (they use eco) 2. prewire with batons Which means if I wanted to have brightgreen then I'll have to get an electrician out after handover to change over the batons to 413s? Anyone know how much electricians normally charge for this? Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 18Jul 01, 2013 10:49 am I also have the bright green LEDs with plug tops. The builder has installed a 413 socket per switch in each room, can I use a powerboard off this to run the other lights or do I need to junction box off the 413 to add additionals. I posted this in building standards but this forum looks more appropriate, Thanks Rick Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 19Jul 01, 2013 2:25 pm nearly certain using a power board in the roof for lighting purposes is not legal.
Re: Brightgreen D900 installation confusion 20Jul 01, 2013 3:34 pm think_wise nearly certain using a power board in the roof for lighting putposes is not legal. I agree. I have been told by electricians in the past that this wouldn't be legal. Worse, it would not be safe. Power boards aren't great with dust or heat, both of which can be serious problems in a roof cavity. Get a sparky to do the install... Much cheaper than a house fire. HD Hi All, see above image.
