I think our builder charges $80 to install a ceiling light fitting like this one: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The retail price of the fitting at Beacon Lighting is $40 - though I've seen it cheaper elsewhere. How much would it cost to get an electrician to change a standard batten fitting & instal the oyster? Through a search on the forum it seems that sparkies charge about $80/hr - but I can't imagine that it takes 30 min to change a light over! Anyone had a sparky do this for them? Re: Cost of electrician to install oysters 2May 25, 2008 9:45 pm We've got a list of electricals we want done on the "new" place....which we'll be passing on to the chap who did our alarm (also an electrician and a very pedantic tradie)....he's going to make an estimate of how long and give us the name of a sparky to use.
That way he'll charge by the hour not per item.....when we built we found the builder electricals to be a rip off....looks like they still are. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Cost of electrician to install oysters 4May 29, 2008 9:41 pm The cost to fit a standard type oyster light is about $40-00, although some guys may charge more. If it is an older house and extra wiring is required it will cost more. It probably only takes 30 minutes max to fit but remember most guys will have a minimum charge for a hours labour, about $60-00 plus GST. Most people normally have more than one light to fit or some other odd jobs anyway.
Sparky. Re: Cost of electrician to install oysters 5Jun 25, 2008 10:23 am I can't say how good our builder has been with me asking for prices on all sorts of different things!
Price to install any standard light fitting (not big chandeliers) is $30 How fantastic is that! And the electrician has indicated that he can't get lights for any cheaper than the stocktake sale that Beacon has on now so the builder has recommended we buy them ourselves to save money. to our builder After 4 years - we're in! Re: Cost of electrician to install oysters 7Jun 25, 2008 11:36 am I am definitely not electrically minded! Happy to pay a qualified electrician to do the job After 4 years - we're in! Oster Lights 8Jul 06, 2008 9:36 am Hi there,
I definitely do not recommend doing it your self, and in addition, unless you are upgrading heaps of then i dare say that its only going to cost a couple of hundred dollars. Not worth cutting corners and killing yourself. In regards to the DIY fittings. Well, they are a cheap alternative, and don't come in to many varieties. I'm not a fan! Hope this helps. 0 1647 That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8951 Fair Trading can issue orders to rectify and complete but once the matter goes to NCAT these orders are automatically vacated.
