Browse Forums Lighting + Lighting Design 1 Aug 17, 2008 6:39 pm Upstairs - I have a hallway which leads to 3 kids bedrooms, bathroom and toilet. Basically you go up the stairs and there it is to the right.
The hallway is a little unusual - its around 1 metre wide and about 5 metres in length... nothing unusual so far... Well its about 4.5 meters high. so its long thin and high... Why high? well surrounding the walls above the roof line are windows all the way around - about 0.5 in height. I designed this to ensure light would fill the hallway during the day - making what would normally be a dull hallway lit up at least.... So now how to light it at night? I thought of pendants hanging down - maybe three? Thought of common downlights.... Thought of a led wall washer to give color and phase of differing colors.... What I need though not only needs to light the hallway - but these lights / effects are going to be visible outside at street level.... Maybe one og those halogen arty crafty sculptues..... So I am looking for inspiration... Ideas anyone? This is a good idea, they should throw enough light out at night, changing their bulbs will be easy. I'm with Michelle, Stair lights are always going to be the preference of a home builder, as they look great, cost very little to operate, and the easiest fitting to replace a globe in. There are so many varieties to choose from as well. I have included a link for you - http://shop.micaunited.com.au/cat/2016666.html you may just have to filter through it, till you find your preference. With pendants, i must say they look great, and transform that house into a home, but you may just want to consider whether hubby likes getting on a ladder... Hope this helps. Ministry of finance (wife) has approved. All I need to do is now find the actual lights and style and good price - and it will be done. We are going with the look suggested by Mrs. B -> Lights above the door line shining up into the sky... hmmm.. maybe I should paint the ceiling with stars ? I am also going to look around for some stair lights that are favorable to the eye... and possibly include those. The lighting is all via c-bus so the intention may be to program the floor lights to come on at 20% or something if motion is detected after 10pm and the main lights are not on... ie. kids woken up running to mom and dads room - getting some light direction... We shall see... Might cheaper to changer your idea of what makes a home, have you considered building a porch? 2 52619 at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above. Above means you need to patch the cornice and might need to deal with… 2 61883 What? It's a lighting question, the control joint is only needed at 12m centres, a bulkhead or change of direction will suffice as a 'break' in the ceiling, just make… 8 9012 |
