I’m hanging interior barn style doors. I’m trying to drill 10mm holes into galvanised steel with a powerful Bosch drill. I’ve been through 2 normal 10mm metal drill bits. The first managed to do one hole and some of the next but wouldn’t do anymore. I then bought a heavy duty ‘high carbon steel' drill bit (very expensive), and that got almost through the second and a bit of the third, but was struggling so now onto the second heavy duty which is going nowhere. I did realise at one point today I had the drill on reverse instead (😂😂😡😡). Would reverse wear the bit down?? I have been using a catious speed and olive oil as suggested by the searches I've made. In despair now of this job that's now becoming expensive. What to do??? Will having the drill in reverse (accidentally) wear down a drill bit? Do I need to have regular breaks to let the metal cool down? If so, how long can I drill for and how long should I wait for it to cool? I use Tramex moisture meter and it will tell me instantly if the wall is cement sheet or plaster or masonite but most people dont have the equipment. 5 7093 Thanks for your advice. So far i have not noticed any issues with doors and windows. Builder advised they will organise drainers to inspect 2 weeks ago but no further… 7 18821 can’t tell from the photo, a tie down rod will be 12mm, is it a steel beam? he should be able to work it out 1 4468 |
