Browse Forums Bugs & Suggestions 1 Oct 22, 2010 11:38 am Just wondering whether or not a new forum can be created for those of us that are renovating/extending and not building a new house? It seems like currently there's no real place for us to put threads of our plans/experiences other than the General Discussion forum and we all know how clogged that can get at the best of times. It seems to me that it would be handy where people can talk about their different experiences with costs, draftsmen/architects, plans, council hassles and the like. A lot of the issues around renovating and extending are very different when compared to building a new house from scratch. I'd like to have my own renovate thread for our plans that are just going into council but I don't think it would really fit in the General Discussion area. Am I the only one who thinks like this? Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 2Oct 22, 2010 11:40 am No you are not the only one. I think it would not only be good for us but for people looking to gather information from the H1 site as a whole. Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 4Oct 22, 2010 12:49 pm We are renovating, and I think a renovating forum would be great Our veggie bed thread: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=38476 Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 5Oct 22, 2010 1:40 pm This question has been asked before and no comments against - but for some reason was never acted on by admin's. Many renovaters wanted to have their own 'start to finish' threads like the building threads. Considering there is a section just for owner builders, a renovater's section doesnt seem to much to ask Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 7Oct 23, 2010 1:07 pm Below is a site that I use for renovating: http://www.*.com/index.php It is an Aussie site, and not that I'm one for recommendations, but, check it out. Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 8Oct 23, 2010 1:28 pm This is a fabulous idea! If H1 don't set it up I'm happy to get a FB group going as I struggle to get answers to my questions and am not sure how to get more responses I often feel as though the boards are just choked with blog style threads that follow entire projects. There seem to be very few conversation style threads that I can easily jump into to find info on a specific topic. Not at all like other forums I'm used to People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. Not at all like other forums I'm used to What do you hope to accomplish with said forum? Are you looking for people with DIY experience to contribute to body of knowledge? (Good luck on a public forum) Lookig for advise on products? (already on here) Looking for people applying self appreciation? (Plenty of that) Blogs are a mix of purpose - Mostly the value (I feel) is in recommending products, services and ideas. The rest is free form and this site pretty much captures it. But as the saying goes - build it and they will come (no pun intended). Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 10Oct 23, 2010 2:46 pm The * previously recommended is very useful. I'll be lurking in there Thanks for posting it! Eve I think my post is self explanatory. Helyn I think it's the start to finish thread that makes it most difficult. Everyone's too busy updating us on their own projects to actually contribute to answering questions and sharing knowledge in a way that makes it easy to find. Forums to me have previously been easily navigated places where information is easily located. Nothing's stopping you from starting a blog about your project. People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. Renovating is a different beast to a build-from-scratch - there are always compromises and restrictions (space, existing layout, style matching etc). It's wonderful to read a thread about a reno and think, wow, I wouldn't have thought of that idea! And, because I'm likely to do quite a few reno jobs over the years, I want it for selfish reasons. Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 12Nov 18, 2010 8:03 pm Guys I am working on a different forum layout which first must be approved by Admin. In the plan a renovators forum won't be needed but renovation topics will have a home. I think we need to update what we have here with the forum growing exponentially! Jeeze you guys keep us busy!!!!!! I think like building threads, renovation threads need a place of their own. This way more topics of non thread relevance but contain great info are sourced far easier. Nothing should be more than 3 clicks away Hand up for new moderator votes Re: Can we get a Renovating forum? 13Nov 18, 2010 8:05 pm So please bare with us. For now, there is no reason why you can't start your renno thread in the building new homes forum, or home maintenance and repair forum. Might be easier in there for now. They won't get eaten by building threads I can move them to a better paddock later I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15244 Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
