Trying to decide what type of flooring to go in our house we are renovating.
We will have carpet in bedrooms.
Lounge/ open plan areas and hallways are wanting to go timber style.
We are deciding between solid hardwood 14mm overlay or 5mm glue down vinyl planks.
There will be approx 3-4k price difference with hardwood being the higher price.
We are installing over yellow tongue so vinyl with require masonite to be laid underneath first.
We also have young children

Have you had a look at hybrid flooring? It looked to me more realistic than the vinyl plank and is apparently 100% waterproof.
The ones I liked (mid range?) were about $80 per sqm incl installation. Not sure about $ of installing over yellow tongue.
