Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 17, 2019 4:55 am We are building a two story in Geelong VIC. Due to kids/dogs we want to use vinyl planks and originally we wanted to carpet the stairs and the first story (games room and four bedrooms) so we opted for plain MDF stairs and planned to do them in carpet too. Now we have started the build we are rethinking this decision and considering: - vinyl planks downstairs - vinyl planks upstairs (will this work?) - possibly vinyl planks on stairs (pictured, I’m not sure if this is possible), or - getting the stairs covered in a bamboo or wood tread and riser system. What am I not considering here? I prefer the idea of vinyl boards in our bedrooms, it’s better for my asthma and allows me to change out rugs as needed easier. Love your thoughts! If you are living there yourself I would want to carpet the bedrooms. If its a rental, vinyl plank the bedrooms as well. There are different thicknesses and I would suggest 5mm wear. Paying a little extra will see many years of use. Warm in winter, cool in summer. Stairwell should be thought about for safety reasons and I would go carpet there.
