Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 21, 2008 7:10 pm hi guys, we are updating our terracotta tiles with either 600x600 high polished/ gloss ceramic tiles or the same size but matt in a neutral off white/bone colour. What do you think will age better, and wont date too quickly?
Any thoughts? Re: polished or matt tiles? 2Sep 21, 2008 7:57 pm I would be less worried about what will date better and more concerned about what would be safer.
Going from your splashback thread... I'm assuming these are going in the kitchen... high gloss doesn't sound like the best idea to me. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: polished or matt tiles? 3Sep 21, 2008 8:19 pm I have high gloss through out the house - even in the bathrooms 0 and I dont find them a problem at all - they are even on the shower base
Ash once called me a geko They have been sealed, maybe this helped? If I had a crystal ball I'd be able to tell you which ones would date first Paula Re: polished or matt tiles? 4Sep 21, 2008 9:22 pm oooh for that chyrstal ball!!!!
I have a friend who also has the high polished porcelain tiles, and unless her kids are wearing socks she doenst seem to think they are too slippery. I must admit my kids would probably enjoy them ..............beats taking them ice-skating hehe. Paula what colour grout did you go for? Re: polished or matt tiles? 6Sep 21, 2008 10:47 pm I must admit the white grout looks the best............however I am already spending enough time cleaning the granite benchtop, soon to have glass splashbacks, my all white bathroom, daily vaccuming of my choc brown mat ( thanks to my adorable cat who is shedding at the moment) and the thought of white grout over 75m2 area does my head in, if you get my point!. So what do you think about either a light grey or mocha? Re: polished or matt tiles? 7Sep 21, 2008 10:51 pm If you seal the grout it wont discolour - we had all ours sealed, including the showers. It was not a cheap exercise, but worth it in the end.
We bought this house established, so it wasn't my choice - I would not have been brave enough to go white But now that they have been cleaned and sealed they still look brand new (only been here 4 months ) Go light grey, the mocha will stand out too much with a white or cream tile.
