Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 13, 2018 9:14 pm hi all We are in the process of putting two bedrooms up in the attic and were looking for flooring options. We are avoiding carpet for obvious dust & alllergy reasons and narrowed down on engineered timber. 1) Downstairs we have hardwood jarrah structural flooring 2) to avoid dark colors upstairs, we are going with blackbutt which will be a smooth transition from jarrah 3) Looking for underlay options upstairs to reduce footfall sound, other airborne noise transmission. Have researched a bit and was thinking of dunlop or regupol acoustic underlay. Has anyone used these and have any other suggestions. I think rubber/cork material will dampen footfall vibrations and noise better than others. Any min thickness i go with or 5mm is snough? (I am also installing acoustic batts between the floors) 4) Lastly , downstairs hardwood flooring is on joists and causes lot of thumping /vibration noise throughout the house. Is there an easy way to fix this. Say, if i instal a rubber underlay on the existing hardwood and another flooring on top (say engineered timber). I thought it might be easier than ripping the flooring out completely. thank you Re: Underlay suggestions for upstairs engineered timber floo 2Oct 10, 2018 7:11 am I will suggest one thing. My dad had problems with his floor creaking and making noises as you walked over it. He had boards put down and a noise suppressant. Took it all up again because it still made a noise. Turned out to be the nails in the joists. He went over the lot with a punch and nailed them all tight again. Now no creaking noise! Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15909 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6146 I have a home gym at home. It weights 150KG including the weight stack. I'm a big boy, around 150KG myself. I was thinking about moving it up stairs to the second… 0 6304 |
