Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 01, 2018 9:22 pm So I'm trying to replace the floors in my apartment to quickstep impressive laminate flooring (with a v. thick underlay). The problem I have is that when the apartment was built, they used tiles in the kitchen area and then carpet in the living area. You can see from the pic below that its not the biggest room so I would prefer just to run the flooring through the entire room rather than only replacing the carpet. Anyone have any grand ideas as to the best way to approach? I figured I could ask the installers to bring up the tiles but that would involve cutting their way around the kitchen cabinets. Is there any way I can use underlay or anything else to try and level out the carpet section then lay the laminate on top of the tile so there is a smooth transition? You could use the underlay, but you would notice the difference in sound and sponginess as you walk from the kitchen into the room. A better approach might be to lay ply or MDF sheeting to bring the floor up to the same level as the tiles before you lay the laminate floor. That’s the easy part. The more difficult part is how to deal with the skirting without the job looking like an add-on. I need to replace the worn mohair seal on my sliding window, but I can't get access to the end to slide the old one out & push the new one in. I could probably rip the old… 0 5196 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6146 |
