Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 12, 2017 2:28 am Hello Homeone Friends, I am not sure if this has already been discussed and if it did, please guide me where I need to go and find it. We are building a house with Metricon and just noticed that they put nasty joint between hallway and living room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We never seen this joint on any of Display home and all of my friends house nearby do not have this. Even my friend who is an owner builder told me that it is not normal and he always put continuous flooring. My 3rd party home inspector told me that most of homes have continuous flooring and it is just poor workmanship and it can cause safety hazard issue... However, Metricon told us that it is what needs to be done if hallway to living room length is longer than 10m. And, the length from entry to the end of living room is 18m in total so they put cross joint. Otherwise, warranty cannot be offered from manufacturer. I am totally lost who is right and is it really a must to put cross joint. It just look poor work. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. (My wife has panicked after seen this and hassling me to fix this issue ever since ) Thank you so much in advance. Re: Joint on middle of laminate flooring-Is it really necess 3Aug 12, 2017 9:05 am Varsani Yes. That is what I found too but if it is the case, actual timber flooring should have joint every 10m at least (laminate is 13m) and I have not seen any home or display home with wooden flooring had cross joint. I think they should have asked you first and told you what the manufacturer recommended and if you did not want the joint then you would not be covered. I agree I would not have a joint if I installed it my self. My brother has installed engineered bamboo flooring in the whole ground floor with out a joint with house depth of 20m and width of 15m(lots of rooms and corridors in that space) and it's been 5 years and no problem yet. YES, my wife hates it and we do not really care about extended warranty they claim to provide. Now I am not sure what can be done. We are asking Metricon to make it continuous flooring due to safety issue (we have a toddler, too) and they try not to do it by stating that it is manufacturer's recommendation.. Re: Joint on middle of laminate flooring-Is it really necess 7Aug 12, 2017 9:14 pm I don't have that at my place and mine is continuous Re: Joint on middle of laminate flooring-Is it really necess 9Aug 12, 2017 9:34 pm No. I did floors separate. I wouldn't accept that finish Re: Joint on middle of laminate flooring-Is it really necess 12Sep 26, 2017 6:11 pm Decomo Hello Homeone Friends, I am not sure if this has already been discussed and if it did, please guide me where I need to go and find it. I'm also building with Metricon and the only way you don't want the joint is you upgrade to engineer timber flooring. My friend who works in carpet call told me that good quality laminate flooring doesn't have joints only the cheap ones come with the joint. Re: Joint on middle of laminate flooring-Is it really necess 13Jan 29, 2018 7:56 pm We aren’t building with Metricon, but we’ve also been told we require expansion joints for engineered wood flooring.
