Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 28, 2008 7:18 pm Hi Crew, I have just had the flooring replaced in my bedroom.
An insurance job. Cyprus Pine floorboards replaced with same. It got installed and after 5 days ( 'to aclimatise') was treated to 2 coats of poly varnish. Looked great to begin with, however after 2 weeks a very noticable ridge has developed on the edge of 2 adjoining floorboards. It appears were the grain of one plank (on it's edge) is of a lighter hew than the rest of the board. About 1cm wide and 100 cm long. Any ideas why this would happen ? I'm thinking irregular wood density. Re: Oh no ! my new timber floor is warping ! 2Aug 28, 2008 8:11 pm Flooring needs to be acclimatised ( in the house) for around 2 weeks before it is laid - I'd say that is your problem.
Also, the flooring should have been 'top-nailed', not 'secret-nailed - many ******** with cypress. Check it has 2 nails per board every 450mm. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15924 The most likely cause of your timber swelling (parquetry?) is either a plumbing leak or carelessly leaving water on floors after use or both. Without seeing, i am ignoring… 1 3283 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7310 |
