Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 02, 2017 10:28 am Hi all, I have a house built in 1985 and I am wanting to replace the floors in the living areas with vinyl plank (wish I could sand the timber floors back but can't at this time). Underneath the carpet underlay is this black almost sponge-like stuff that's stuck to the boards. Does anybody know what this is and the best way to remove it? Thanks in advance! Once you glue vinyl to those board, it will be very hard to impossible to remove that glue to refinish them in the future.
