Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 May 04, 2017 6:39 am Hi Everyone, Which flooring will be felt comfortable at the cold winter mornings (without underfloor heating), but considering that the house itself is well insulated (double glazed, good insulation throughout) and the rooms will be pre-heated with hydronic radiators (in the rooms) and heated towel racks (in the bathrooms)? I am currently thinking of Engineered Hardwood with 6 mm cork underlay in the living areas and bedrooms and luxury vinyl tiles on top of the same 6 mm cork underlay + moisture screen in bathrooms. Will this set up provide comfortable feeling when barefooted? Thanks in advance WBR, Alex Re: Warm floors without underfloor heating 2May 04, 2017 10:28 am alexp79 Will this set up provide comfortable feeling when barefooted? I don't think so. While timber or engineered timber flooring will feel less cold than steel or concrete, it will not feel warm unless it has been naturally or artificially heated and will still have that cool feeling that you get from most hard surfaces. Even though it won't feel warm, carpet is the only flooring material that will fully insulate you from the cool or cold feeling of the underlying hard surface. Re: Warm floors without underfloor heating 6May 05, 2017 11:01 pm As mentioned concrete will need to absorb heat from somewhere to radiate it. It has an R value of 0 so I'd say you'd have to have the heaters on for a while before they'd stop feeling cold. 1 10119 This certainly doesn't look good.
