Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 18, 2008 2:52 pm Hi there, I have Kauri floorboards throughout the lounge/dining and would like to continue something the same in to the new kitchen can someone give me any ideas of what floorboards look like Kauri as I don't think you can get Kauri anymore. Not sure if there is anything in the floating floorboard range or should I go for real floorboards. As you can see I am a novice at all of this. I live in the Randwick area. Thank you for your help. Re: what is like Kauri? 2Aug 18, 2008 3:19 pm You could try to get some second hand (or recycled) Kauri boards. Measure the width of your existing boards and get in touch with a few of your local timber recyclers. If you are lucky they may have floorboards in the same size, or be able to cut overlay flooring timber for you (only appropriate if you have narrower boards, personally I wouldn't install a 150mm width overlay floor). Re: what is like Kauri? 3Aug 18, 2008 9:16 pm They don't make wide-board overlay flooring as the boards would simply cup.
My first check would be as Lyn said, look for recycled Kauri Pine floorboards. It really is gooing to be tough to match otherwise. You can get Malaysian Kauri Pine flooring (also known as Danmar Minyak) which is reasonably close. No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 9113 |
