Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 19, 2017 9:47 pm Hi I have a Subfloor moisture problem. It has been raining for the last month and we are in the middle of doing flooring. The moisture level in the subfloor is 17-20%. Just want to know is this just because it's been raining or will I have problems later after we lay the floor down. I don't think we have enough ventilation under the floor as it's like a closed off basement. Any help with this would be great thanks Re: Subfloor moisture problem 2Mar 20, 2017 8:10 am If your moisture level in timber is 17-20% it is too high, it should be 10-14%. Anything over 18% sets of conditions suitable for rot, mould and termites. All homes with sub floor are required to have effective sub floor ventilation and it seems you have answered your own question. You can have wall vents put in for cross flow sub floor ventilation and if that is not possible (too difficult) you can have a fan on a timer to push air change (you still need inlet and outlet). Also, check your surface drainage and that you don't have leaking plumbing or drains (blocked drains can back up and leak under the house.
