Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 30, 2017 12:45 pm Hi guys, looking for some advice please. Our house was recently hit by a flood which didn't get into the house but underneath it, and our insurance company are now indicating that they may not fully cover restoration efforts because we can't prove that the damage is because of this flood or from previous floods / general water build up over time. It's an old style house which has ventilation points on the ground (so any time it rains water would be running under the house). Also there is no access under the house except by cutting holes in the floor so 4 weeks later they still haven't been under the house to air it out or see if there is still water / mould etc down there. All we really know at this stage is that some top floor boards are starting to crack, although their moisture reading shows no moisture in the top floor boards and there is clearly some movement in the house (doors no longer stay open etc). Also, the brick interior walls are still wet despite having the de-humidifiers in for 12 days already. We are not educated enough in this area to know if we are getting taken for a ride or what to argue back so would greatly appreciate any advice on what we should be doing / saying to ensure we get this resolved. Thanks in advance. Re: Flood damage to subfloor 2Jan 31, 2017 8:47 am My experience with insurers is that they will generally try to fob you off as their first line of defence against paying out. You will need someone experienced to look over damage in your home and then help you prepare a claim and if necessar take on the insurer or their consultants. Unfortunately expertise is not cheap so you will have to spend some money. But Melbourne water only wanted something the original size of the existing house. We managed to fit a 45sq house on. 10 34608 Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me.
