Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 25, 2016 9:41 pm We just bought an apartment and wanted to put floorboard in to replace carpet (it's concrete floor under the carpet). We have few questions, hoping experts in this forum can help: - Is it true that you can only do floating floorboard with apartment? Is glued-down floorboard too hard or too expensive to do? - How thick should the underlay be to have good sound proof? (we have been told 5mm is enough, is that true?) - can you please recommend a reliable and professional flooring supplier+installer? We've visited one in Coburg North and wasn't impressed with the service Many thanks! Re: Floating floorboard or glued-down floorboard 2Feb 28, 2016 9:23 pm 3mm is fine for laminates. engineered flooring should have thinner underlay like 2mm, or else you will get creaking and / or sagging. If going solid timber, glue it down. If going solid timber, glue it down. Thanks for the advice. We are going for engineered floorboard from Quick-Step (ReadyFlor) and the installer recommended Dunlop Acquacoustic underlay (I think it is 3mm). If you haven't sorted this already you need to caulk this gap. Not sure where you are but if you are in Sydney I can… 5 4345 Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6140 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3002 |
