Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 05, 2016 6:46 pm Hi all, my husband and i are building our second home and are so stuck between vinyl and laminate we have a 1 year old and hope to add to the litter soon. We feel that one of these options is going to be most suited. can anyone share any of their experiences with either or pros and cons also if anyone can recommend somewhere in Melbourne for vinyl plank that would be great. we are looking at the wider boards if possible. Re: laminate or vinyl plank!!! help!! (melbourne) 2Feb 05, 2016 8:38 pm I think it comes down to personal preference in the end I personally don't like vinyl I think it feels tacky under my feet and doesn't feel anything like wood. We have laminate in our house now and will be getting it in the house we are building. We have been in our house for 5 years, have a 4 & 2 year old and a rather large dog, it has never shown a scratch mark and is always easy to clean! Re: laminate or vinyl plank!!! help!! I think after a little more research and visiting a few more show rooms. I think laminate certainly feels more like wood than vinyl indeed. I guess at the end of the day if prefer it to look and feel like wood rather than just look like it..... Are you in melb? (melbourne) 6Feb 08, 2016 1:08 pm Hi, we actually went with the loose lay vinyl planks - Karndean brand. They have only just been delivered ready for installation. We have laminate in the house we are currently renting and it is terribly scratched and has fading in some spots (we have 2 young kids)- I couldn't tell you what brand it is though - obviously there are better choices! See if you can get your hands on some samples so you can scratch test them, after our rental property experience we wanted the most durable possible. Re: laminate or vinyl plank!!! help!! (melbourne) 7Feb 16, 2016 5:17 am Have a look at Serfloor Vinyl Planks. They are very cost effective and really look and feel like wood to me. I'm getting the click-lock planks buy they have other types. Their factory is in Hallam. I went there when I was in Melbourne so I could see a large area of the planks and they looked fantastic. He even gave me a full plank so I could bring it home as a bigger sample. Re: laminate or vinyl plank!!! help!! (melbourne) 8Feb 16, 2016 8:05 am me429sb Have a look at Serfloor Vinyl Planks.
