We are having Rectified Porcelain Tiles layed throughout the living areas of our house after handover and quality underlay and carpet for the upper floor.
After speaking with Beaumont Tiles, They have recommended we have the skirting set to 13 / 14mm as the tiles are 10mm plus 2mm for adhesive / grout.
My father who is also a builder informed me that he usually fits the skirting all the way through the house at about 12mm (the thickness of a piece of skirting) even if its going to be carpeted so that you can still see a good portion of the skirt once the carpet is layed. He would also not have a problem setting it higher if requested.
Now my issue is the builder apparently has a difficult time accepting a suitable spacer from me to create the 14mm as requested. It's either going to be 12mm finished or "tacked" on for me to remove, refit and finish after handover.
They also set the skirting for upstairs to sit straight down on the floor which, IMHO, means you will lose a good portion of the skirt behind the carpet. Seems strange to me as the builder does not know what flooring I am actually using so how do they dictate the upper floor will be carpet?
Needless to say, there doesnt appear to be any offer of a credit to me for not completing the job so I am not willing to accept this option.
So what to do?
* Have the skirting "tacked" on? this me a LOT of work afterwards to remove and refit just about every scrap of skirting?
* Have it finished correctly at the 12mm which I can see will cause issues with the tiles later?
