Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 16, 2008 11:18 pm I am planning to build a new house in Freshwater. We are thinking of installing pre-finished strand woven bamboo floors in an open plan downstairs living area.
Question I asked the builder was when will the pre-finished floors be installed. He indicated it was best to do it last as the trades will basically rip it to shreds. However I don't know how this will work with skirting boards, kickboards etc.. Shouldn't the floor be laid first? Also, can you liquid nail skirting boards? Am thinking that we don't want paint dropped on our nice new boards, so if you can pre-paint them and liquid nail them you avoid this risk.... Any help that people can give me would be grand.... thanks Re: When to install pre-finished floors during a new build 2Jul 17, 2008 12:15 am I have no experience with this, but I have read of other people doing this. I think they just get the builder to install the skirting boards 'loosely' so that they can be removed and then replaced after the flooring has been installed, but hopefully someone who actually knows what they are talking about will give you a better answer.

Many builders won't do this as they do not nail the bottom of the sheets of gyprock ( to save money) and work on the basis the skirting nails will hold it.
