Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 15, 2008 3:54 pm The other day we went to some other carpet places (Andersens and Solomons), and we now like different carpet than what we liked previously.
1. From Andersens, Reliance (brand name?) solution dyed nylon twist (extra heavy duty) in colour Driftwood. It's SO nice and soft but thick/twist, and it's $77 per square metre. 2. A different one but similar shade to the above, also nylon twist (not sure if it's solution dyed) in brand (?) Villa Maria, colour Whispering Smoke. This one I didn't like as much as it's nowhere near as soft. It's $57 per square metre. 3. From Solomons, Brilliant 50 (brand name?) nylon twist solution dyed in colour Macrama. It's $65 per square metre. I know I don't have any more specs, but do these seem ok? Oh, and also, all of those above are extra heavy duty, the Andersens ones come with 15 year guarantee and the Solomons one comes with 20 years. The Solomons one also has something called Live Fresh in it, which is something that absorbs/destroys odours and stuff. Sounds good. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Extra Heavy Duty…….You can’t get much better than that for residential. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Advice on carpet? I'm not 100% sure the 20 year guarantee from Solomons is for the actual carpet, or for the Live Fresh anti-odour/bacteria stuff in it... How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Ring them up, or go and see them, best you sort it out before you make your choice. Guarentees….usually include all that is involved with the carpet. But best to check anyway. We did go there on the weekend but as usual, whenever I'm faced with a billion choices and products, every question I want to ask flies out of my brain until I get home and then they all spring back. lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? Its hard for me to make any clear determination with the supplied information. Follow your nose to the one you like best. Price shouldn't be a main factor in your choice. Neither should the warranties. Look at and feel samples of each carpet. Are some heavier weight than others? Is pile of similar density and height? Steer towards the heavier, denser and lower profile carpet. If you've pretty much decided which one you prefer, get all the specs you can on it, and let me know. Ash. Re: Advice on carpet? ASH? lol 11Jul 28, 2008 11:10 am Thanks Ash, for your advice there.
I am sort of slightly unsure of how to know what I’m doing with carpet, as you say the lower profiles are better and more dense etc, which makes sense, but they’re not as soft. I find the softer the carpet, the more expensive and supposedly better quality, but then for them to be softer, they tend to be higher in the profile…so that’s not good then? Or is it? lol It’s confusing! Basically, I know price isn’t the first consideration, but in your experience, firstly is Andersens ok for carpet? Are they overpriced or crap at laying carpet in any way? (or are they all much the same, the retailers?) Secondly, any twist pile carpet priced over $60 per loomal metre (or whatever it is), can it be assumed it’s pretty good? For cut pile carpet (assuming both are solution dyed nylon and extra heavy duty), for you to safely assume a carpet is good, would you need to go up in price a bit? Like, $60 for twist pile would be a better quality carpet than what you’d get for $60 for cut or plush pile? Sorry for this garbled post! lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? Sorry for this garbled post! lol Grace, I understand the luxurious feel of a deep plush pile carpet is attractive. But I tend to caution folk that deeper pile has a propensity to compress and settle more, especially if it lacks density. If they are all extra heavy duty, they should all be quite good in service though. Also, the much thicker, deeper pile carpets will be more expensive, by virtue of there being much more yarn in it. This added thickness doesn't make it peform any better, and when it comes to cleaning and maintenance, it means there's more capacity for it to collect soil etc, and can take more work to clean effectively. So I suggest very densely tufted, lower profile carpets. They may not be quite as luxurious, but generally better value for money. Ash. Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 18153 1 11011 1 15766 |
