Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 18, 2015 12:40 am Hi, Im just curious why we have to pay the builder the cost to upgrade the tile to full height in the bathroom and THEN pay the tile tradie to do the tiles. i.e: i upgraded the bathroom to full height which costs me 1680 for 4 elevations. When I went to Beaumont Tile to select tile, they charged me the price of the tiles as well as the labour cost. isn't the 1680 is the labour cost? I asked the staff there, they said bigger tile requires more labour cost. is that fair? The total quotation of the tile is 27000, half of it is the tile and half of it is the labour cost. why is the labour cost so expensive? Thanks Re: Cost of upgrading to full height tile. 2Sep 18, 2015 2:14 am The labour can be more than the cost of the tiles. The bigger the tile the more they cost to lay. Builders usually specify a 200x200 tile which are a lot cheaper to lay. Re: Cost of upgrading to full height tile. 3Sep 18, 2015 2:51 pm The prices are indeed ridiculous so we ended up sticking to the standard tiles. We figured that we could use the money elsewhere. They charge extra if 1) It is a bigger tile. 2) It is porcelain instead of ceramic. 3) It is rectified. You would save a lot if you bought the tiles yourself and got someone to do it separately since builders use the tiles' RRP even though most of the time tiles are always on sale. However, how you go about arranging that with the builder is another set of issues that you would have to face. Thanks Our full height just in one bathroom came to 4950 so sounds super fair to me ends up being just to hard to fight them on in the end Kryssti Ben trager build 2015/2016 Re: Cost of upgrading to full height tile. 5Sep 27, 2015 11:32 am We are also building through Trager and the price was about 4-5k for full tiling in each Ensuite. Money can be justified elsewhere.
