Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 17, 2015 7:34 am Hi there, We are having new carpet laid (and the old carpet lifted and taken away) next week. Having never had this happen at my place before, is it going to be quite noisy? Noisy enough that the baby and I should head somewhere else for the day? Is it likely to be dusty? Thanks! Re: Is carpet installation noisy? 2Aug 17, 2015 10:31 am You can guarantee there will be a build up of dust under the old carpet that's being removed. Do you have a verandah to sit outside in with baby ? there will be some noise, but should be moderate from outside the house. I'd also suggest having the windows open, so any dust that gets kicked up in the process, drifts outside the house. ![]() Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. ![]() Blog : http://bandlnewhomebuild.blogspot.com H1 thread : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=68283 . Re: Is carpet installation noisy? 3Aug 17, 2015 11:10 am It doesn't have to be terribly noisy, but it can depend on the installers. They may like to be able to hear their radio from each of the areas they're working in, and talk to each other over the top of that. Having open windows is also helpful from the point of view of dispersing the VOC emissions from the new carpet. Probably. Noisy? That depends if they are reusing the smooth edge or installing new smooth edge. That is the timber strip around the edges with the spikes that hold your carpet stretched out. It had to be hammered in all around the edges. Re: Is carpet installation noisy? 5Aug 17, 2015 8:04 pm Thanks everyone. We'll open all the windows in the morning and try to camp out in our courtyard for the day and maybe take a walk for the baby's sleep.
