Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 10, 2015 4:32 pm Hoping someone can give me a bit more info in regards to acoustic rubber underlay. I've been shopping around for a while for engineered flooring, and have finally decided on Big River's Spotted Gum. I've spoken to a heap of flooring places, and have received mixed opinions from them all in regards to underlays. Some have told us just a plastic waterproof underlay will suffice, others have recommended using acoustic underlay or rubber underlay. The place we're deciding to get the flooring from has recommended A1 Rubber Acoustic Underlay. Though what I've gathered, is acoustic underlay is only really needed for two story homes or appartments? Ours is only a single story, and will be floated over concrete slab. Is the A1 rubber overkill? Are there any benefits of getting it? Has anyone got experience with using rubber underlay? The other concern I also have is the flooring is already 14mm thick - adding a rubber underlay will raise the flooring even higher, which then worries me that the flooring will be higher than the carpets and tiles. Any advice would be much appreciated. Re: Floating Floors - Acoustic rubber underlay? 2Aug 18, 2015 8:04 pm Without reading all of your post, you really only need the Thermocustic underlay if your house is one story. Its really only a few dollars extra to get acoustic if you want it. The underlay is only 2 to 3mm max.
