Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 07, 2008 5:45 pm Ash? You there? lol
I'm undecided about which carpet to go with now, and we have to go back and look again and go to other places, and blah, blah, but basically, I'm a bit concerned that the price range we're looking at is going to result in utter craptacular carpet... I read something on here that $105 per metre (not sure if it's square metre or the other metre carpet people use...loomal or something) is average and fair, but nothing special. And then I'm thinking oh my GOD, we're looking at about $40-$50 per metre. WHAT!? Does this mean our carpet will suck???? We can't afford more than $60 per metre! Eep! Also, in your very educated opinion, is Godfrey Hirst a good maker to go with? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this really crap carpet? 3Jul 07, 2008 5:53 pm Hi Grace,
How was the tour? Ash will help you but he'll want "specs". Specs are what it's made of, construction, weight, etc, etc. Get those and he'll help I'm sure. Godfrey Hirst is generally ok I think but all brands will have good and bad. To do list has been trying to get your attention Grace! Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Is this really crap carpet? 4Jul 07, 2008 5:54 pm You need to distinguish between sq.m (1 m x 1 m) and broadloom metre which is 3.6 metres wide x 1 m (that is, the width of a standard carpet roll)
http://www.carpetcourt.com.au/floor_spa ... ulator.php So if it's $105 per broadloom metre it's $105 divided by 3.6 m = about $30 per sq.m. Also, in your very educated opinion, is Godfrey Hirst a good maker to go with? grace_slick….Ash is away for a while, I’m filling in for him…hope you don’t mind! Godfrey Hurst is one of the best! You can’t go wrong with their carpet! $105 per lineal mt is average….actually low. To get a really good quality carpet you would be looking at $160 a lineal mt. The photo below, is a strong wearing pile carpet……you can get away with a cheaper carpet with this type of weave. I understand now. So $40-$50 per SQUARE metre is actually not bad cause that means it's more than $105 per broadloom metre. GOOD GOOD GOOD! lol
I don't know specs, except it's extra heavy duty, nylon twist pile, I don't THINK it's that solution dyed nylon, I think it's just standard dyed which I know isn't as good...it has anti static something or other...lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this really crap carpet? 8Jul 12, 2008 4:08 pm Ok, well, today we went to some other carpet places (Andersens and Solomons), and we now like different carpet.
1. From Andersens, Reliance (brand name?) solution dyed nylon twist (extra heavy duty) in colour Driftwood. It's SO nice and soft but thick/twist, and it's $77 per square metre. 2. A different one but similar shade to the above, also nylon twist (not sure if it's solution dyed) in brand (?) Villa Maria, colour Whispering Smoke. This one I didn't like as much as it's nowhere near as soft. It's $57 per square metre. 3. From Solomons, Brilliant 50 (brand name?) nylon twist solution dyed in colour Macrama. It's $65 per square metre. I know I don't have any more specs, but do these seem ok? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this really crap carpet? 9Jul 12, 2008 4:11 pm Oh, and also, all of those above are extra heavy duty, the Andersens ones come with 15 year guarantee and the Solomons one comes with 20 years.
The Solomons one also has something called Live Fresh in it, which is something that absorbs/destroys odours and stuff. Sounds good. How the hell did I become a senior member!?
