You can stain timber to a darker shade or even slightly different tint if you like - so don't get locked into the natural timber being the only option for that species.

Quote: I got disappointed upon seeing the Sydney Blue Gum,too. Not to my liking. Too light from what I saw before. I ended up getting the Jatoba instead. I'll be getting it from Carpet Call as they're in for a huge clearance. Steve Re: Timber flooring: Any suggestions, anyone......Michelle??? 22Jul 13, 2008 10:59 pm Dukekamaya wonderland I heard that Sydney blue gum is very expensive as its quite rare, as apposed to Jarrah? Is that the case? I also love timber floors but am having the problem of chosing colour as well as keeping the height of the floor to bare min!! Sydney Blue Gum is one of the more plentiful species for use in flooring/joinery and is well cheaper than jarrah. Jarrah is actually becoming a little scarcer, which is why Karri is often recommended in its place. Thanks Luke! Is that so? I went to this timber flooring store and the SA told me that Jarrah cost around $50 per sqaure metre supplied only, whereas Sydney blue gum would cost $100 supplied only. But she was talking about prefinished solid timber floors , whether that makes any different. Would you know how much Jarrah would cost per sqaure metre supplied only? Cheers Re: Timber flooring: Any suggestions, anyone......Michelle??? 23Jul 14, 2008 5:58 pm We don't deal with the pre-finished solid flooring - too many QC problems in China with it.
80x19 solid Jarrah flooring would be about $70 per sq. metre in a select grade. Thanks Luke. Is select grade the more expensive one? how much would it be for normal floorboards, if that's the correct name for it! Cheers. Re: Timber flooring: Any suggestions, anyone......Michelle??? 25Jul 15, 2008 6:50 pm I would have to check the standard grade price for Jarrah. I'm guessing about $55-$60 per sq. metre Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 Hi, Looking to add an ensuite to one of the bedrooms and make it a Master BR.
