Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 19, 2015 11:31 am Hi I live on the far north coast of nsw, We love the look of Polished concrete, but were wanting people that have it already opinions. We are only going to do polished concert in the main areas being (main lounge, dining, Kitchen and kids Activity room) With tiles in the bathrooms, Laundry and carpet in bedrooms & media if we don't go with Polished concrete we will have tiles in all of these areas so the coldness wont be an issue. Any info on this would be great Eg- have Polished concrete and would prefer tiles, or it requires to much maintenance Re: Polished concrete 2Jun 22, 2015 5:23 pm Hi We put polished concrete in our new open plan living space (living, kitchen & dining). The rest of the house has existing floor boards (re sanded and polished). We love the concrete floor (don't like tile grout). We did also install hydronic floor heating (I think install even if you have tiles). Love the heating. It is only on in the morning before school and early evening. We find the room temperature doesn't go below 17 degrees due to all the natural light coming through double glazed windows, wall, floor and ceiling insulation. It is retaining the heat from the early morning floor heating and natural sunlight. Coming home today the temp was 19.5 degrees- it is very cold outside now (I'm in Sydney). We also have the polished concrete on our deck which flows off this open plan space. We wanted to continue the flooring through. Our kids are always sitting on the concrete floor. They love it also. Very easy to vac and mop. Can't use any turps etc on the floor though because it can impact the sealer. I find this a non issue. I use the 'Earth Choice' floor cleaner with no problems. I also didn't go for a super shiny finish (that isn't us) Hope this helps. Good luck. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9862 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10940 |
