Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 31, 2015 10:06 pm Hi All Our concrete floor has just received it's first grind. Trying to decide on which sealer to use- penetrating or topical? Can anyone offer any advice? The concrete flooring is both internal and external and I understand that only the penetrating sealer can be used on the outside floor, should I use this on the inside as well? I've also been told that the topical sealer changes the colour of the concrete slightly whereas the penetrating one doesn't. Which is more stain resistant? All advice appreciated. Thanks Re: New Concrete Floor- Which sealer 2Apr 07, 2015 3:50 pm Depending on the installer most I have found will generally always use penetrating sealer's. Me, I'd do the same. If you are looking for something with a little depth of colour ask about Enhancers. We have supplied these to polished concrete installers with great results. They are penetrating sealer's designed and manufactured to darken and enrich the colour. As for more stain resistant this is the hard part. You, the customer, need to understand that penetrating sealer's (and most sealer's) aren't stain resistant. They allow staining to sit higher to the surface of the stone (slab in this case) to make removal easier. They will not stop staining from occurring if you don't clean up the stain within a period of time as specified by the manufacturer. Certainly surface sealer's can be a better stain resistor as the sealer sits on top of the stone, never allowing the stain to touch the stone and therefore removal can be done in a number of ways, not least stripping the sealer and applying a fresh coat, but can still stain in the same way a penetrating sealer will. Hope this helps. Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 3808 CDC Housing Code 3 When to apply Floor Area external face of wall vs Gross Floor Area internal face of wall.
