Vinyl plank flooring edge cap - crappy

We are going to have vinyl plank flooring laid on our living areas, with carpets to the bedrooms.

In those areas where the vinyl plank flooring and the carpet meet, e.g. entrance of bedrooms, there will be a plastic edge cap installed.

When we were at the flooring company, they put the vinyl plank, carpet and edging together to give us an idea how it would look like:

We were told that metal capping cannot be used as these were used only for laminate/wood flooring as these had a thickness of ard 14mm vs 5mm with vinyl flooring.

It's acceptable to us, but not the prettiest and we are sure that out there somewhere, there must be an alternative capping that can be used.

Does anyone have any ideas, or have used a different edge capping?

Are you on a slab where flooring will be? I am also going to do vinyl floor planks but will get the floor levelled first by a company that will use maybe some grinding here and there then a levelling compound on the surface area for the planks. My planks go straight onto the slab surface without underlay. It has been suggested to me to get the area in front of the doors "ramped up" to gain similar height of the vinyl planks at the door way to the carpet height where they meet. Of course I will still need a strip for carpet edge in the doorway but I am thinking a square type of edge versus the bull nose edge you see on carpets. I will read your thread with interest.

Yes, we are on a slab and have incorporated the vinyl plank flooring into the initial building plans with the builder.

This was done so that the concrete would be as level as possible, in readiness for the vinyl planks, to minimise the need to apply levelling compound before the flooring goes down. We do expect that if any levelling is still required, it will be minimal.

The vinyl planks we have chosen are 5mm thick, so similar to yours will go down without underlay and they will be glued to the surface.

Personally I think a square edge would look better instead of this edge cap that we will be given, so I'm busy sourcing for alternatives lol

We have a capping . Between tiles and carpet . There is a metal thing inbetween where the plastic cap goes into .. we could of left ours off but the tiles werent cut to my liking so I wonted it covered lol .it looks ok .I guess I have always had a plastic capping between there .

Ideally we'd like a metal/alu type capping as well because we like the look of it. Have seen those installed between tiles and carpet but not vinyl planks and carpet.

In our current place we have vinyl flooring in all areas joining to tiles in the bathrooms and the tiles have a metal edging along them which finishes them off nicely. Bearing in mind that our current place was built in 1996 and that the vinyl floor is probably no where as thick as the ones we are going to get for our new home.

We have the same plastic thing where vinyl meets carpet - not the biggest fan of it, but you get used to it.. would be very interesting to see if there are alternatives though.

very happy with it so far, but it's only been ~1 month or so.

Hi Saintza, I am using the Ezi-Lay LVT from Carpet Call, supposedly it's manufactured in Belgium for Carpet Call.

The colour we have chosen is Iron bark, but there are around 5 other colours you can choose from.

Unfortunately they do not have the tile or colours listed on their website, so the only way to view them is at the store. ::smile::
