Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 16, 2015 2:59 pm I am getting closer to starting putting down floor tiles in my living area.
I have already bought 500mm x 500mm ceramic floor tiles (coloured light grey). The area to be tiled is about 110sq m. My preference is to have 3mm spacing. This is what I have always done in the past and it gives me a bit of wriggle room if the tiles or room are not perfectly square or if the tiles are not perfectly flat. I looked at one of my neighbours house. He has nearly finished tiling his living areas using 450mm x 450mm ceramic tiles with 3mm spacing. His floor looks good to my eyes. However I have seen some photos of new houses on this forum and houses seem to have only 1.5mm spacing between tiles. Any comments on whether I should 1.5mm or 3mm spacing for my floor tiles? Re: Floor Tiles - Opinions on Tile Spacing 2Feb 16, 2015 4:15 pm 1-1.5mm spacing is normally used for rectified tiles (i.e. all the edges are perfectly square and all the tiles are exactly the same size). With ceramic tiles - if you tried to do them with a 1.5mm gap I think the inconsistencies in the sizes/edges would be more obvious. I would be sticking with the 3mm as you originally thought. Hope this helps! travis Re: Floor Tiles - Opinions on Tile Spacing & Levelling 3Feb 16, 2015 8:38 pm Thanks Travis, I will stay with 3mm spacers. However I am still undecided if I will need to use a tile levelling system. Any thoughts about when to use a tile levelling system? I have never used them in the past but I have seen photos in this forum where tilers have used levelling clips. Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10940 Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board. I am wondering which one… 0 6538 Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end.
