Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 18, 2008 10:05 pm Hi all,
I'm hoping some nice person will give me some ideas for carpet. I have done the rounds visiting ***, Western Distributers, Carpet Choice etc etc and just can't settle on a carpet. Its not that I'm particulary fussy - its just that there are so many choices I get totally overwhelmed & can't focus! All I really want is a carpet for the bedrooms that is soft underfoot & is in a mid-brown tone. Could you please give me some brands / colours of carpets that you have chosen so I can walk into the shop & go directly to these! thanks! Re: Help! Choosing carpet is doing my head in! 2Jun 18, 2008 10:16 pm Sorry …..It’s not that easy.
Best thing for you to do, if you haven’t already, is do a colour board. Take that colour board with you to the carpet shops, pick a budget of what you want to spend….that will cut down ¾ of the carpets in the shop. And work from there. This is how I pick carpets for my clients. It’s not as easy as saying get that…..carpets change all the time. What was in last year may not be in this year. I’m afraid you will need to do the leg work. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Help! So I might have to do. Forget Polypropylenes. Forget loop pile carpets. Choose cut pile nylons or wools (or blends of these yarns). DuPont Stainmaster nylons may be a good choice. Next, some cut pile carpets shade (the pile lays in different directions, so when you vacuum you will get zig zag lines) Does this characteristic bother you? If so, hard twist pile style carpet may suit you better. Consider lighting and other surfaces in the rooms when choosing the shade of colour. Give your head a rest, and enjoy!:D Ash. Re: Help! Choosing carpet is doing my head in! 4Jun 19, 2008 12:42 am Carpet and curtains do my head in as well.
Pick some samples you like and ask Ash - he's very helpful. We chose a 100% wool twist pile from Quest carpets. Well priced, durable and nice colours. Expect to pay more than you anticipated - good carpet does not come cheap. Re: Help! Choosing carpet is doing my head in! 6Jun 19, 2008 7:29 am Thanks Ash, DeeElle & Michelle for your replies. I should have said in my earlier post that I have read EVERYTHING that Ash has written on the forum about carpets (& thats a lot of reading!). Thanks for your really helpful advice!
Michelle - what are your thoughts on the carpets that are popular at the moment with the slight textured patterns? I like these but not sure if the better way to go would be to go with a plain, untextured carpet & then add jazz things up with rugs & other accents. One carpet I like is a Godfrey Hirst, Milano in caramel kiss colour. Funny I just did a google search for a pic to show you and it took me back to Homeone http://www.perryr.com/homeblog/labels/carpet.html Also when choosing a carpet does the carpet tend to look lighter or darker than the sample once laid? thanks again Re: Help! Paula Re: Help! Choosing carpet is doing my head in! 9Jun 19, 2008 5:58 pm mek What's wrong with loop pile, Ash? Nothing! Mek, my response was to Trina specifically, and should be read within context of the criteria she has given. I was helping by a process of elimination to direct her to those carpets that will best meet her criteria. OK Mekky baby! Ash. I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
