Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 31, 2015 3:06 pm We're looking at flooring for our whole house. By the time we move in we'll have two young kids and a pretty big rowdy Labrador. For anyone following our building dramas, we're leaning away from tiles and we've ruled out hardwood, engineered timber and bamboo because of their tendency to scratch. We haven't been sold on the vinyl options and the only thing we haven't ruled out is laminate. Just how easy does a good quality laminate scratch? We figure that based on reputation, quickstep is a product which may be more durable than others. We're avoiding high gloss finishes such as the Colonial range and focussing on lighter colours. But we're still concerned it might wear poorly. So my question is, should we go for the cheaper option of Quickstep Classic ($27/sqm) rather than Largo ($54/Sqm). To be honest we prefer the Largo, but we don't really want to spend the extra if we're only going to have to replace the floors in 5 years time. Re: Another Quickstep Question 2Feb 03, 2015 7:07 pm Why would you be replacing your flooring in 5 years? I'm concerned that the laminate won't be able to handle scratching from our dog. There is so much conflicting information in the market as to the degree of scratching in laminates. If I was comfortable that they wouldn't excessively scratch, I'd go with the more expensive option. Re: Another Quickstep Question 4Feb 04, 2015 5:14 am Your flooring is only as good as you treat it. NOTHING, is going to stand up to heavy use, even my concrete has scratched thanks to one of my tradies. You have to be aware there is no product on the market absolutely scratch proof. Look at the wear layer of the laminates, the thicker the layer the better the protection. You know you can buy repair kits for scratches. Young girl I work with has a staffie and he runs around the house like he owns it, she reconds laminate is good. "If you're an animal lover and you have very active dogs running around all the time in the house, you will need to prepared for a few scratches. IF the dogs are fairly settled in the home and a mature slower dog, I doubt there will be a big issue."
