Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 11, 2008 2:13 pm Ok so I've read that dark carpet shows all the lint etc. but the chocolate carpet is the display looks soooo good!! Would it really be THAT bad?
Or do you think a lighter brown would be a better idea? I do like the dark cos it would contrast nicely with the light/medium colour floorboards we are having but also don't want to make a huge mistake. If chocolate is a really dumb idea please tell me so I can move on Thanks! Cazz Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 2Jun 11, 2008 2:23 pm Go the dark - we have a dark grey and are happy with the look and cleaning.
We learnt with colours - people will always say dont get xxxxx in light colours, it show up all the dirt. Other people will say the same thing about the dark colours of the same item!! So in the end, you just gotta go with what you like!! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 3Jun 11, 2008 2:47 pm Hi Cazz
Totally agree with vanderlay! And, speaking from personal experience, having had chocolate brown carpet somewher in our last 2 homes, I can say it's so much easier to keep clean ( and I have 4 children - 3 of whom are boys!!!) I absolutely loved it, and I didn't really notice it showing stuff - anyway, a quick vac will fix that instantly!!! We had a lighter colour in the kids' rooms, and I would say that ws much harder to keep clean. We are currently building, and when we pick the carpets (..which I must get around to doing!) I will absolutely be picking something dark....in fact the dark grey's soundung quite nice, vanderlay!!!! Definitely go with what yo love - you have to live with it, after all! Lighter carpet , toddlers + peanut butter just before your OFIs start = disaster and one stressed petal and 2 near stranglings....trust me On a brighter note...vanderlay - I LOVE your carpet, what is it? PS Those toddlers are now 8 and 6and 1/2, so they survived........just Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 7Jun 11, 2008 3:06 pm petal On a brighter note...vanderlay - I LOVE your carpet, what is it? Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 14Jun 11, 2008 4:24 pm Darker colours are the best carpets to buy, hides traffic better and cleans up very well and the cut piles a great for invisible patching just make sure the installer leaves behind a least 5% you may never know when you will need it.
Craig Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 15Jun 11, 2008 6:24 pm Ooh thanks guys I feel a lot better about it now. I know there's usually pros and cos to every colour was just making sure it wasn't ALL bad but seems to be the opposite!! Yay chocolate
(Sorry if I havent posted this multiple times cos the submit button doesnt seem to be working!) Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 16Jun 11, 2008 9:00 pm Apart from the fact that you are joining the throngs of folks decorating in browns, if you like it, GO FOR IT. Sure it will show up lint and stuff, and especially in main bedroom, you'll see all the fine white dust (your skin, etc) but hey, all its doing is telling you it needs a vacuum. How great! A carpet that talks to you! Really, if you really like it, that's what matters.
BTW, a year ago, I cleaned the carpets for a lady's rental property. Most rooms were fine, but the main bedroom had some bad stains in it. I spoke firstly with her about it, and agreed I'd see what I could do with the stains. If they weren't going to come out, I'd arrange a new carpet for her thru a mate I know in the carpet industry. The stains were tough, so I chose a chocolate xtra heavy duty nylon carpet to suit the room, and got it fitted for her. A few days ago, I was there to clean after the last tenants. The carpet really is superb. It looks fine, and will give very good service. Ash. Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 17Jun 12, 2008 11:28 am I don't want to see skin on the carpet!! eww haha
I think I will just be extra handy with my vacuum!! I agree it looks like a good colour for stains though. The one we like has little diamond imprints in it. I don't know if that makes a difference. It looks good though! Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 18Jun 12, 2008 3:21 pm Hmm...maybe Ash just sheds a lot....I don't remember seeing flakes of skin on MY chocolate brown carpet!!! And whether os not "throngs of people" are decorating in brown, you should still go for that if that's your taste! I think ours had a diamond pattern....or maybe squares (lol I've forgotten already!) It was great, though! Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 19Jun 13, 2008 3:43 pm I'm really nervous about carpet...I don't know what to do! I am in 2 sort of minds, and neither of them are clear.
I thought we'd sort of decided on the nylon twist pile in a light sort of fawn/brown shade. But I don't know now...I'm not sure if I love the twist...how it'll look in vast amounts once laid as opposed to how it looked in the sample in the shop. What if it looks too thick and shag-pile like? Or messy, etc? I know originally I wanted plush...I think I still do, but at the same time I don't want to show every foot mark, scuff, and get that sort of velvet look of shadings when you brush it certain directions, you know? I'm also second guessing the colour. I keep seeing wall colours I want for carpet, but when I see carpet, nothing matches. I guess there's no real way to combine the two really, since obviously wall paint is totally different in consistency and texture to carpet... I don't know what to do, and I'm scared if people come out and quote that I won't be able to decide based on tiny carpet samples!!!! I also thought at first that I hated any carpet with shapes on it...like diamonds or squares embedded, you know? But the other day I made a hosue in The Sims 2 game and I chose cream carpet with squares in it and LOVED it. lol How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Chocolate carpet - Is this dumb? 20Jun 13, 2008 9:03 pm I generally find that looking at a sample, (whether its carpet, paint or whatever) tends to look stronger en-mass. So if the sample looks just right, choose one a couple of shades lighter, and it'll be about what the sample looks like. Hope that helps. Also, consider the lighting of the areas to be carpeted. More light will wash out the colour.
