This is an image of a Blackbutt floor that was coated with WATER BASED polish 12 months ago. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is what is known as Tannin Bleed. This black stain was on virtually every end matched piece in the floor. The effect is also duplicated if a pet pee's on the floor. Water based coatings are NOT Pet friendly, and they should not be put on all timber species. So let me add this, WATER does not Protect Timber! The proof is in the picture. It had completely worn off in sections and was exposed to water as this is the entry. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The Perfect process fully restored the floor. See the water stains in the before shot. Very different from Tannin Bleed from water based coatings. This I could fix! Floor Sanding Brisbane with The Perfect Process. Only at Quicksand & Polish. Here is one where a water based company just did one room and told the owner that the colour would match. Massive fail. Water based on Brush box turns it milky. This whitish floor is the same timber as the red floor beside it, except is covered in the milky water based finish. The water based coating is less than 1 week old. The owner was furious that she had been told by the Water Based company that it would perfectly match. See how milky it turns Brush box. The Top picture is after we sanded it off. The bottom two are with the Water Based beside the thinners based polish. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Floor Sanding Brisbane with The Perfect Process. Only at Quicksand & Polish. Mark. This is a brand new floor. The home is not quite complete, so they actually have not moved in as yet. How old does this floor look? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We sanded it, but unfortunately the water based coated offered zero protection and the stains went straight through the water based coating and deep into the ply as if there was no protection at all. I have to say though that there has been some selective use of pictures to prove people's points. The above picture has nothing to do with the finish applied and everything to do with situation the flooring has been put in. That flooring has not gone like that because of the finish, and to indicate it was coated and then under normal use has ended up like that is some what misleading. If I didn't know better I'd say that flooring has been exposed to the elements (weather and sun). Without knowing the full story (when, how, with what, by whom) regarding any floor finish, posting pictures to prove your point can be seen as misleading. I can show you pictures of just about any well tested building product (2 pack poly included) that under the wrong situation or because of incorrect installation has failed or simply looks rubbish. That doesn't mean it's not a good product when used by skilled trades people (as you obviously are) in a way that the product is meant to be used. I have no horse in this race, so what I'm saying is simply based on the things I have personally observed from my years in the building trade. I have no horse in this race, so what I'm saying is simply based on the things I have personally observed from my years in the building trade. I don't think this is misleading. The initial post was Inside a home. It had no issues other than the coating failing to protect the end match pieces and sent them black. The last post, the Architect was told that Water based is NON Yellowing and that it would protect his floor. This is a brand new home which he has not moved in as yet. The product has clearly Yellow significantly in a very short period of time. And it has clearly failed to protect the floor. The two claims made by the water based company are The Misleading factors. They said it Would protect, and it would not yellow. It did not protect and it did Yellow. Who is misleading whom? Floor Sanding Brisbane with The Perfect Process. Only at Quicksand & Polish. Mark. As I said, the finish on that ply was not the problem. It has greyed and yellowed because it has sat in the elements. That ply would be looking pretty sad regardless of the coating. The picture of the scratches nicely shows what happens when you don't use furniture protectors. I'd say those scratches would have been in whatever finish was on the floor, water based or solvent. I dont care for one finish over another, personally I've seen good and bad in both. I just feel that for you to post those photos in a thread indicating that under normal use a water based finish can end up looking like that is misleading. Anyway as I said I'm not going to get embroiled in an argument. I'll leave it at that. You do nice work by the way, your floors look good.
