Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 04, 2014 7:30 pm Hi All, We are in the process of choosing the flooring for our new home and have timber laminate from PTF included in our package. We have established that we want to upgrade to real wood, being either Bamboo, prefinished or solid timber. Our timber laminate is currently priced at $59 a sqm and Metricon have quoted $160 per sqm to upgrade to prefinished timber. From the research we have done, $160 per sqm for prefinished timber seems like a lot of money? Granted that is fully laid and installed too. We're new to this whole process and are unsure what to expect price wise. We need roughly 70 sqm for our home. If we received a credit back for our timber laminate ($4130) and added to that the $7000 we were prepared to outlay for the prefinished timber upgrade, that would give us a budget of roughly $11,000 to source 70 sqm of timber elsewhere, fully installed. Is this a realistic budget? Keeping in mind that whatever company we pick, that they would have to level the slab etc as well. Our main issue is the colouring of the wood/choices available through Metricon and us having a preference to source our own elsewhere. Who could have thought timber would be so hard! We used a smaller qld builder who went bankrupt about 12 months after completion of ours. It was a shame as they were good and relatively cheap and I would have used… 3 4661 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6173 |
