I was just looking at the Proline Floor website and it looks like Grand Provincial Oak and Provincial Lane are from from the same company. I'll just assume both 12mm are good. I'm happy with what we have chosen, I need to stop looking at things we are settled know will probably drive myself nuts. Michelle, thanks for the carpet recommendation, I will look into it when the kids are back from school. What is your experience like with Karndean flooring? My CS guy is pushing it and has said to steer clear of laminate flooring, but I've just read some awful things online about Karndean scuffing REALLY easy and not being able to remove the marks. I understand that a lot of bad things will make it to the Internet and not the positives, but after saying yes to Karndean, now I'm a bit worried! Thanks, Penny Re: I work at Carpet Court - do you have a flooring question 508Jul 21, 2016 9:11 pm NelopeJ88 Hi Michelle! What is your experience like with Karndean flooring? Thanks, Penny Penny... the best I can give to you is this. I'm going to use it in all my wet areas (karndean losel lay) ...bathroom, laundry and loo. I've been selling this flooring for 15 years, if I'm going to use it...it had better be good. Go for it!! We have just had it laid and it already has heaps of scratches around the place. We haven't moved in yet or don't even have furniture in the house so aren't too sure how its happened. Trying to figure out if it scratches easy or if tradies have come inside with boots on etc Thanks Re: I work at Carpet Court - do you have a flooring question 514Aug 31, 2016 9:25 pm Firstbuild92 Hi Michelle, Just wondering if you have had any complaints about Godfrey Hirst Zen Bamboo range? Do you know what thickness the timber layer is in the Provincial range? Do you have any suggestions/advice/recommendations with what to look for? Do I really need at least 4mm thick wood layer? (We have young boys and the timber flooring will be in high traffic areas, including kitchen.) Thank you! Re: I work at Carpet Court - do you have a flooring question 516Sep 02, 2016 8:52 pm Darren's range of Oaks are quite nice. Its about 4 to 5 mm?? I've never really taken a lot of notice. Boards are 14mm think, the most of it is ply. (as all 14mm timber) In the Quickstep rang there is a couple of new oaks that look fantastic. To me..if they get scratched it will only enhance the appearance of the floor. Should I pay attention to the weight? I'm looking at a 100% wool loop carpet. I don't really know what a good quality weight would be, and one retailer I went to said it wasn't that important. Also, is 11mm underlay the best I can get for a residential home? Thanks.. Re: I work at Carpet Court - do you have a flooring question 518Sep 03, 2016 10:58 am Hi lazandjohn, The price point will tell you the weight of the wool carpet. The more expensive it is will mean the quality is better therefore pile per content is higher. 11mm underlay is fine, we sell that with all our carpets. Where they are good for (areas) and where they are not. Pop over if you want to keep up if I don't manage to re-post here for a while. https://www.facebook.com/De-Novo-Concep ... 075038019/ First flooring - Timber floating floor - Tong and Groove Commonly know as engineered flooring with a small layer of timber on the top glued to a pine board backing. The best to buy is a 14mm with the 2.5 mm underlay. The thicker the better. 14mm is the thickest and provides less drum as you walk on the boards and is a much sturdier flooring than the 12mm or 8mm available on the market. This type of flooring has to be laid over a fairly level sub flooring. You need to leave at least 8 to 10mm gap around the parameter of every room. You also will need expansion joins in long rooms. If this is not done this flooring can pop up for lack of room to expand and contract and your floor will need to be taken back up and re-laid. The best look for floating floors is to take all your skirtings off, lay the floor, leave the gap, then put the skirts back on....its a nice finish. BUT, there are times that this can not be done with a renovation and the skirting s are old. In this case you leave the skirts on, lay the timber, then add Scotia around the surrounds of the skirts to cover the gap. There is a misconception that these floors don't scratch..... Wrong! These floors are only as good as how you treat them. 11 to 12 coats of polyurethane on each board, I recommend felt pads under all your furniture to avoid scratching. Here is the number 1 hint....check the bottom of your vacuum cleaner, they are the worst for scratching these floors, if your brush head is not working, put felt pads in your vac as well!!! NOTE - Absolutely NO steam mops or wet mopping to be applied to any floating floor at all! These floors are water resistant, to a point, NOT water proof. Any spills, no problem, just wipe them up straight away. "This is most important" - This is NOT a floor I recommend for rentals, avoid it!! I can recommend something better. You want a solid timber floor layer, I can provide you with one of the best. Just let me know. http://www.quick-step.com.au/timber/readyflor Ok, any questions?
