Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 866Oct 06, 2020 9:30 am Hi Michelle, I want to replace my current cork tile floor with an engineered hardwood floor. I don't know what to do with the cork tiles? Whether to remove them completely (time consuming - getting rid of adhesive etc) / channel through them to attach my timber battens to the concrete and then my floors / possibly glueing the floor directly to the cork (not sure how I could lay any moisture barrier in this instance). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. David. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. David. Hi David, First, you batten with a floating engineered floor, only solid timber. You should be able to go over the cork floor. Whoever you buy your floor from should be able to explain the process to you. The only issue will be the height, 16mm over the current cork floor. I've never been asked this question before, it's a good one. I might check tomorrow with the boys for you. ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 868Oct 26, 2020 6:14 pm My Bathroom, toilet and kitchen makers. So if your all wondering where I have been, I've been doing my own bathroom, toilet and kitchen makeovers. It's been very time consuming waiting for trades to come after their day jobs as well as me still trying to run my own business which is extremely busy at the moment. Why is this in the flooring thread? Because everything I have used is flooring! I had a custom made Spotted Gum solid timber vanity top made, all the wall tiles were covered with a 2mm Karndean vinyl plank with cheap 4mt wide sheet vinyl on the floor. The vanity has been sitting in my garage for 8 years...ha, better late than never! NO GROUT IN MY BATHROOM! My installers are some of the best in my town. I am totally in love my make overs. On the weekend I did my kicks in the kitchen with the same vinyl, LOVE. The 2 doors will be done by my installer to make sure it's done right. This bathroom was a makeover on a tight budget! $4000. If I don't mind saying, it turned out perfect! Any questions please ask, just remember I'm really busy as I'm still going in the bathroom with a trim and Choices Flooring Nowra is flat out, as well as my business. I'll try and get to your questions when I can. ![]() Before Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Before Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Started Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Finished....nearly. Hi Michelle, Thanks for showing us the renovation you did up there, the transformation looks great! I am new to this forum, so apologies if this question has been asked before! I am planning to build my first home sometime this year and am trying to make a rough budget. I would like to have chevron/herringbone engineered timber flooring, but am struggling to find the average material cost and installation online. Would you happen to know the average cost and any recommended suppliers (in Sydney)? Thanks for the help. Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 871Jan 27, 2021 2:29 pm Hi Michelle Hoping you can help point us in some sort of direction! We're looking at options for flooring for a new build. It seems very divided out there, when we're visiting showrooms, about whether to go Laminate or Hybrid. We have a medium sized dog that runs the house, so we need to be mindful of her running about as well as her water bowl. The hardest thing for us is trying to find a colour/pattern that we like. But we're getting very lost in all of the different views of Laminate vs Hybrid, opinions on waterproof or "it's not really waterproof", AC3 vs AC5 vs "don't worry about the AC rating". At the end of the day, we want a floor that's going to last, little maintenance, will put up with our dog and that looks great. Do we throw out all of the worries and just settle on whatever we like the look of? Thanks a mil Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 872Jan 31, 2021 3:35 pm ![]() Hi Michelle Hoping you can help point us in some sort of direction! Thanks a mil Hi Winnieshome, I can well imagine how confused you must be, it is becoming very overwhelming with all the flooring out there. Both floors are very resilient, hardwearing and most of the laminates are water resistant up to 72 hours. If you don't see a spill in 72 hours, you're on holidays! Laminate is water resistant on the top only, if you get a leak from a tap and it gets under your floor, it's no longer water resistant and will have to come up. Hybrid is fully water proof, top and bottom. BUT, it you get a leak, it will still have to come due to mould. SOOOO, you decide, either one of the products will take your dog, all flooring can scratch, just be aware of that. Even my concrete. ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 873Jan 31, 2021 3:54 pm ![]() ![]() Anyone with a flooring question tonight? Herringbone/Chevron is more expensive to install than other timbers due to the extra work involved. Also because I live on the south Coast we a slightly more expensive than Sydney due to freight. Choices Flooring have a Chevron and its stunning! We In Nowra sell it for around $183 a square mt installed but should be slightly cheaper in Sydney. It's a gorgeous floor!! Good luck! Are there options available for a chevron floor pattern with 'hybrid' timber floors?. The reason we want to do hybrid is we want to use the same flooring for kitchen and butlers. We are like the Semillion colour in below link. When I called this company they say it is engineered timber. https://www.preferencefloors.com.au/pro ... y/chevron/ thank you in advance Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 875Feb 04, 2021 9:23 pm ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyone with a flooring question tonight? I understand the Supreme Touch will cost more than the Highbury Place but has longer warranty. I was given the suggestion that I should spend the money upgrading my ground floor laminate floor (from 8.3mm to 12.3mm) and save by choosing a more budget product on first floor as less time spent in bedrooms. What's your opinion on those two types of carpet? Is it a huge price difference? Is it worth it? Thanks in advance. But with my experience the dearest ones hold more fibre, which means they are denser. I always recommend a12mm laminate if possible only due the fact that is drums less when walking on in boots and hard sole shoes and is a sturdier laminate. If your not using the bedrooms downs stairs I wouldn't put an expensive carpet in. Look for a carpet around $230 a l/m. This will be a good carpet and all you need. I hope this helps. ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 878Feb 24, 2021 12:18 pm ![]() ![]() Hello Michelle, I am considering between Godfrey Hirst Supreme Touch or Highbury Place for my whole first floor bedrooms and corridor. May I ask for your opinion with the laminate flooring, I am tossing between Preference Floor Aquastop 12mm 'Zermatt' or Topdeck Prime Platinum Edition 12.3mm 'Marigold Oak', which would you pick? The laminate flooring goes to whole ground floor living and kitchen space. Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 879Feb 24, 2021 2:47 pm Hi Michelle, Our home is 6 months old and our flooring is a engineered timber (ply underneath and 2 mm French oak on top). It looks amazing but seems to be quite soft and easy to chip the top coloured layer (exposing the raw plywood colour underneath). For example I went to pick up some rubbish and my fingernails took a chip out very easily. There are probably 7 or 8 chips (some a few cm long) already across the living and dining area. Is this normal or do you think its worth complaining to builder about? The brand is premiere oak by hurford flooring Re: I work in flooring - do you have a flooring question? 880Feb 24, 2021 7:41 pm ![]() ![]() ![]() Hello Michelle, I am considering between Godfrey Hirst Supreme Touch or Highbury Place for my whole first floor bedrooms and corridor.
